Thought I would share this newest piece as it progresses. Unfortunately I didn't start scanning it until now, so it's pretty far along:

Here's a detail shot of the muzzle:

It's Prismacolor on medium-grey Windberg sanded pastel paper. I've never seen any colored pencil work done on sanded pastel papers, so I thought I'd give it a shot. It really makes the colors vivid and you can REALLY layer it. You can also erase and use colorless marker blenders without worrying about the surface getting marred or saturated or whatever.

What I do is establish a local color for each shape and block that in moderately-heavy with a colored pencil. Then I go over it with a colorless marker and spread the color evenly throughout the shape. After that, I start building up layers of different colors.

What I like about this medium is having the ability to add color without really worrying about the colors underneath. They don't mix like pastels do (unless you REALLY have a heavy build-up, then they mix) and your next layer won't drag the bottom color in with it unless you want it to.

You really get a lot more control. Good or bad, I don't know, but it's satisfying the control freak in me :P

Roan, this looks to me as if it is coming along great. I think you are blending it in fine. The details on bridle and harness and stuff is wonderful!

Good gracious, Tammy, you scared me! http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif

I JUST posted that and was copying the text so I could post this in drawing too and there popped up your message. I thought I'd goofed for a second!

Thanks for the encouragement! I still need to add refinement here and there to the muzzle, but I'm really pleased with how this is coming along.

This is really going to be fantastic! I've never even lifted a colored pencil. I'm like you, though, I like the control I have with pencil. This oil painting stuff I'm doing is driving me nuts....

Waitin on the final...

My god, I am gob smacked Excellent work.
What can you tell me about this colourless blender thingy? I wish I had one. Are they known by anything else? Can't get prisms here. I love it Roan.
