Good Monday-Tuesday everybody!!!!
Low cholesterol and high energy to our Mods and Guides!!!!:D:D:D
This is the exercising `s week.
So, take your dog, your wife or husband, your neighbour`s grandma, your little nephews and take a walk!!!! David is our resident expert on walking.
Or you can start some yoga.
Or you can dance . If you don`t have a dance`s partner , dance with the broom.
Sit ups are not good for begginers. I would say that sit ups are not good for anybody who is more than 15 years old. After a few ones your thigs are going to hurt a lot and you will walk bending down.
Have a good week!!!
Today Supeboss and I went to a board meeting with the Hospital authorities. We have came to the conclussion that we are going to move as a whole, while the building is under construccion. They have no clue where are we going to go. But they have recognized that we are a complete institute and they have not intention to dismantle us.
See you:music::music::music:

Sit ups are actually bad for your lower back too. However, that being said, about the best way to strengthen your stomach muscles are crunches. I do 30 slow ones each day which doesn't sound like much, but they have a definite effect after a few months. Leg lifts are also good. The trick to it all is not to let the pendulum effect make them easier .. and to go slowly - no bouncing. Same thing with weight training ... slowly ...
So Anne, you get out of doing sit ups but we expect photos and a report on your stomach crunch and leg lift experiences!

Afternoon all! If you want an effective stomach / abs exercise that is safe for your back then try the 'plank'. Keep you body in a straight line supporting yourself on your toes and elbows only and try to stay there for 1 minute. Try it - it's not as easy as it sounds. It's important to maintain a straight line from head to toes this works all your ab muscles and obliques.
Yoga is excellent too - Namasté!

How did you resist the tempation to go and enjoy the hotel and the view?
You know is like those International Congress. Some years ago there was one at Cancun ,Mexico. It was an Endocrinology`s Congress which is not my field. Some collegues wanted to go and I saw the schedules of the conferences. So at 10 am you will have a conference about the effect of the pamutertdfsosn on the somatotrophine of white lab rats xxxhy, and in the other hand you will have the beach, the sea, those glorious sunny days, what would you do, really?, I asked my colleague. No matter to say that she came back with a fanstastic tan.

Anne, That’s amazing, dedication! I checked out his art online. He has a very storybook/dreamlike style to his work and seems to be very inspired by the Irish Coastline.

Michael!!!! Happy belated Birthday!!!!
Well, good Wedenesday-Thursday everbody!!!
Have you been exercising?
I did. I ran out of gasoline again:o. Good excuse to walk.
The things at my work tomorrow are so complicated that I am going to need a clone like Heather.
It`s has been three months since I have started the complicated paper work to get internet at my work. First, after three months, some young man came in and said the phone line was already digitalized and installed the modem.
Second afetr 40 days the boys from the phone provider`s Company came in to get the wires correctly placed. They couldn`t do it.
Now I have to ask for another company to do something and I am soooooo tired of this insane bureaucracy.
Do you know what is a great exercise?.....:evil::evil::evil:
Buy a Cosmo magazine, go right into the kind of bedroom advices, and practice, practice, practice. It`s ken`s mantra so it`s ok, I think.

Luicre, there is a little guage on your dashboard, it normally has a little picture of a petrol pump, when the needle is facing toward the E symbol, or a little red light starts to shine, it is a gentle reminder to put petrol in your tank. Just some useful advice.

Oh, thank you, Michael!!!!! I do know what the red light is telling me. But in the past when the red light has started to blink I usually knew how many time I have left untill I find myself in the middle of the street with my car dead.
Now it`s not that reliable. I guess that it could be better if I get my car`s tank full....the poor car is not used to have the tank full........he is going to start to cough.....
See you

Rachel, just my two cents. I always have one or more refs in my briefcase that I love. Whenever I can, I start the grid, then transfer carefully, then start the shading. Slowly. I don`t allow myself to feel rushed . So by that way, I always have something to draw or to build shapes, lights, darks. It may not end in a finished drawing but I always learn something more.

Oh, oH. Be carefull!!!!! The Cosmo `s bedroom advices can get your back injured! Be careful. I have been reading something and it seems those advices are for athletic young people. Ok as all of we are.
Have a good Friday everybody!!!!!
Which to me is tomorrow.
Have you been exercising?. If not you can always mow the lawn. But......don`t cheat........don`t use the machine.......use a machete... you have to make a movement like ...welll I don`t know ....and you will sweat...
If you want more exercise you can always go to your neighbour and volunteer yourself to mow your neighbour`s lawn. Just remember to not go with the machete in your hand because your neighbour is going to call 911 ASAP
See you

A Real Man
A real man is a woman's best friend. He will
Never stand her up and never let her down.
He will reassure her when she feels insecure
And comfort her after a bad day.
He will inspire her to do things she never
Thought she could do; to live without fear
And forget regret. He will enable her to
Express her deepest emotions and give in to
Her most intimate desires. He will make sure
She always feels as though she's the most
Beautiful woman in the room and will enable
Her to be the most confident, sexy,
Seductive, and invincible.
No wait... Sorry... I'm thinking of wine. Its wine that does all that.......
Never mind.

Friday!!!!!
It`s the end of a crazy week at my work.
So, if you have already exercised , you can rest.
But.......there is always some good home made exercise if you want....
Forget about laundry authomatic machines.
Get your laundry. Submerge the dirty clothes on the bathtub. Fill the bath tub with water and soap.
Start moving the clothes inside the soaped water by opening your arms and then closing your hands. You will have to sit on your knees. Repeat this movement 50 times. Make the same when you want to clear the soap.
I have to say that this is a great exercise to female upper appendages. After some sessions nobody is going to believe that you didn`t have a silicon surgeon...up there....
Have a great weekend !!!!

so many dead :( That's only part of the story though ... when you include the wounded the number increases to over 22,000 (some estimates exceed 24,000) and that was all in about 10 hours ... of which only about 6-7 was actually fighting. It becomes even more amazing when you consider that George Brinton McClellan (USA) had in excess of 100,000 soldiers and Robert Edward Lee (CSA) faced him with only about 33,000 - over 20,000 rebel stragglers were left behind on the roads from Bull Run Creek, Virginia to Sharpsburg, Maryland - many, if not most, of Lee's Army of Northern Virginia were barefoot. With that in mind, it's not surprising to hear of regimental losses being astronomical in Southern regiments. The 1st Texas, for instance, lost 186 men out of 226 before the battle. That was the highest loss of any regiment in that war.
And then consider that a major battle had been fought by both armies 3 days before at South Mountain and at Second Bull Run just a couple weeks before that. Such loses were suffered every few weeks in the summer months during the war. In the end, over 600,000 died in those 4 years. The entire population of the US in 1860 was about 18,000,000 (in contending States). Interestingly the South named battles after towns while the North named them after geographical features. So the South called this the Battle of Sharpsburg while the North called it the Battle of Antietam.
But I wasn't intending to deliver a thesis on what happened in detail .. just to mention what happened. We all feel the ripples of that war in our everyday lives regardless of what country we live in though, of course, it's strongest in the US. The impact of the battle was not that it was a resounding Union victory because it most definitely was not (Lee remained in his lines throughout the 18th defying McClellan to attack again - he did not) but it was still a watershed moment in world history because it allowed Abraham Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation.

Good Saturday morning everyone
Hope you dont suffer too much from sick heads this morning
House is quiet .... for a little while yet anyway :crossfingers:
Kids are still asleep, himself is at work and thankfully I got a day off. First day off in over 2 weeks.
Woke at 7.15am ...oh well. Just enjoying a cup of coffee while the silence lasts, will hopefully get some drawing done too.
See ye later
Have a nice day, Katie......
Good morning everybody!!!!!! Saturday!!!!
Bren, hope your grandchild bring in a lot of joy and happiness in your life. Sorry that you`ve had a terrible day.
Ken I already knew something about Antietam, what a terrible blood shed.
Anne, good morning!!!!Glad I have got you smiling.
I did have a terrible week but I really enjoy my jokes.
At my work, we have just joined to a major research on Chagas`s disease. The research is conducted by some University from Canada and we have joined along with Buenos Aires, another state at my country, and Brasil.
So last night, the main Researcher or main Investigator of my work phoned me and asked me If I wanted to go to Belo Horizonte in Brasil, next week end.
You know, someone says Brasil and I start to get my baggage ready. But then I read the email. We have to take a bus, and three planes, which is going to last almost 24 hours to arrive at Belo Horizonte. After just one day in the Meeting, we should have again to take the three planes and the bus.
No way. I said no. It`s completely exhausting. I thought we could have at least two days more so I can go to get caipiriña and dance on the beach but this is insane!!!!
Have a great Saturday!!!!
See you:music::music::music::music:

Evening all!
Thanks Ken for the info on the civil war - we do well to remember this and other wars and hopefully learn from them.
Hope you had a nice day off Katie!
Bren - looking forward to seeing lots of pics of the new arrival.
Luicre - sorry the trip to Brazil didn't work out - I'm amazed how you always manage to smile even when things are tough -
I was rowing on the river this morning for the first time in weeks - the rain was pouring down and it was windy - very difficult conditions! I'm well and truely wrecked (I think i'm getting too old for this type of stuff!)
I'm watching the Transformers movie - again! The music is fantastic!

Haven't posted in here in a while, guess I just haven't had anything interesting to say. However today I did go to the exhibition of a plein air art festival in a town about 20 minutes South of home. There was some nice work on display and many of the participating artists had booths set up of their other work as well. One thing that kinda baffled me though were the prices. When I started looking at the paintings the prices kinda shocked me. The prices I saw at first were running $400-$1200. I even saw some up to $1800! Knowing what the median income of the average American household I have to wonder who in the world is paying that much for paintings! In particular, I saw one that was already sold for $1200! It was maybe 11x14 and wasn't particularly impressive IMO, I scratched my head over that one. I saw paintings that were larger and in the $200-$400 range that looked much better. Not that it was bad, it just wasn't, ummm, I don't know, not my thing I guess.
Anyway, sorry I got a little critical there, I was indeed impressed with much of the artwork and saw some types of art I've never seen before, and art mediums you would not expect being used for plein air. I was particularly set back to see an ink pointillism drawing! I met the artist in her booth, she said she was very suprised to get invited and didn't think she could do it. It took her all three days of the pre-exhibition portion of the festival to do it. Then I saw a collage that was entirely made out of many layers of small cut pieces of scrapbook paper, and it was of a koi and lily no less. I found and talked to that artist as well, she said it took her 27 hours to do that piece! Over just three days and on location! Amazing stuff.

Oh Luicre, my mum was born in Belo Horizonte. A shame about the travel complications. I guess you have to fly to Buenos Aires, then Sao Paulo, then Belo Horizonte? Perhaps you could have missed the return flight and spent another day there  . No beach there, though :( .

Hi everyone
Just a quick drive by!
I went to a meeting of our Fine Arts Club and it was alot of fun! They had Frank Ordaz, an emmy winning artist, as guest speaker. He has worked in Hollywood on films like Star Wars and was invited to the White House by Laura Bush. He was so friendly and down to earth too! He has a gallery and does workshops so I'm definitely signing up.

Yes, Michael. A bus to Tucuman, a plane to Buenos Aires. Another plane to San Pablo.Another to Belo Horzionte. I forgot there is no beach.
But since I love Brasil I don`t care. I could never stay at least one day more there because I should pay my bills then. And my coworkers are going to kill me.
Gerri, good for your rowing!!!

David, some of that art sounds very creative. I never thought of plein air as anything besides painting. Its all a matter of personal preference I guess. One time when I was selling some work I priced some art for $75.00 and the gentleman who wanted to buy it thought it was worth more so he offered me $100 instead; which I gladly accepted. :D

Art is so subjective, David. I'm with you. I see some "works of art" that I see nothing in...they have huge price tags, then I see incredible work that have small ones...I don't get it either:confused:

Once you learn that program though Luicre most any other bitmap graphics editor will come pretty easily to you. I remember learning CorelDraw many years ago, I think I put in a couple hundred hours with it before I started showing any level of real competency. It paid off though, I won an award with a drawing I made using it, a local contest but the prize was the latest version of CorelDraw and Windows 95, yep, it was that long ago.

I have the same problem with Photoshop CS4, I am clueless on how this intimidating software works...but I keep buying the upgrades..
I use Adobe Lightroom for my photography, so Photoshop isn't my main digital darkroom.

Sounds like a really interesting festival. I'm always amazed at how art is valued. I saw two very small (5 X 7 approx) line drawings at an exhibition a while ago. They had a price tag of 1,200 Euro. They looked like a child's drawing. It didn't look like anyone was prepared to buy them.
Heather, that was great that your work was more highly valued that you thought. Well done.

Don't worry Luicre, you're just looking to edit photos correct? That won't take that long to learn. With CorelDraw I was learning to create vector based drawings from scratch, a whole different deal.
