Okay, I give! I'll start drawing more horses http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif

I just resubscribed to Horse Illustrated and Horse & Rider -- in the past I've found both of those to be loaded with great pictures to do studies with.

What I need are some GOOD breed mags that have a lot of GOOD pictures. Any recommendations? Any breeds will do, but I'm specifically looking for Arab, "middle ages" type breeds (Friesian, Paso Fino, Andie), draft, and pony types (anyone know of a good Highland Pony mag?).

Are the Quarter Horse and Paint Horse Journals still good sources? Dunno if the formats have changed over the years.

Also, I used to get Canadian Horseman and Equus, comments?

I have this site for the Arabian Horse World. I about cried when I opened it though, Khemosabi, one of the world's best stallions and my favorite, passed away--on my birthday. He was absolutely gorgeous and I did several drawings of him. http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/crying.gif

Oh there are tons of good ones
Paint horse journal and QH journal are always good. Arabain horse world is wonderful but very expensive. I get their off shoot Arabian Horse world quarterly from Chapters. It's always worth the $10 or so it costs. Lots of eye candy. There is Canadian Arabian new. But it's not really all that good comparied the the US mags. There is also Arabian Horse Times. (at least there used to be?) It's as good as AHW but less expensive.
Don't know about Paso's but there is a mag for Peruvians. Called "Peruvian Horse World Review". I have a Andy mag around here some where too. I also have some Friesian mags I was given when I visited a stud farm in Holland but they are all in Dutch. Great pics though! LMK if you'd like any addy for any of these.
Twyla...can you tell I like horse mags! :-0

Shirl, twas a sad day when Khemosabi died. He is one of the greats for sure. I get Arabian Horse World. It cost me $70.00 for a two year subscription and I wrote it off so it was worth it to me. You could pick up a couple of issues and get plenty of good references. The magazine is loaded with great photos.

I just subscribed to Equine Image. Eye Candy for the equine artist for sure as it has all the great equine artists in it. I can't wait to get my first issue.

Once I get my new camera, hopefully tomorrow, I will be out and about capturing all those references. Kansas City is a huge, diverse horse community. You can find any breed here. Just have to have this baby so I can tap into the wealth! It is another boy! Makes 4 boys for me. Guess I am not supossed to get any girls.

Pat,

Roan gave me a real good site to go to for Khemosabi--of course I just sat there and bawled. Was he beautiful or what...

I have about 10 Arab Horse World mags and it's really all I need forever, but I want to see what's new.

Four boys!!! Hey I had 2 boys and have 3 grandsons. Girls are too much trouble--I know, I was!
