Boy do I have nerve posting here with all this beautiful horsie artwork......eeek.
Well here goes.....I have been a bit down lately as its a scary time but have been trying to paing.....
This is sort of a fantasy pony that evolved by itself. I know its not right anatomically but felt it was finished
Oil on masonite 36x 24
Thanks

Bah, I like this. It would make a great illustration for a children's book.

Anatomically incorrect? As a fantasy piece, the only thing I find distracting is his right ear and I'm a little confused on the lighting.

What I mean is that the light seems to be coming from our right and his ear is highlighted at the edges, as is the shoulder, but the left side of his barrel has more light than the right side of his entire body, including the mane.

Hope that makes some sort of sense.

Now, you've got that round, protruding pony barrel down to a "T", and he has a pony look and legs. That's not easy to do! Don't sweat it, paint more :P

This is the photo I was looking at and to me the ear looks like that.....so im not sure what to do with it.
Also, the light was supposed to be sort of an all over glow thingie........im losing my marbles maybe? http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif

Leila,

The photo you painted from does have light all around it, but your painting has that "tunnel" -- it almost looks like a very hazy sun, but it's very strong.

It could be the scan, but it appears to me to be the light source and hence my confusion on the shadows.

As for the ear, both of the ears in your painting are a little too close together on the head. The way you've painted the outline of the right ear makes it appear to be facing backwards, listening behind, rather than listening to the side as in the photo. If it was listening behind, the ear's perspective would make it much flatter against the head.

See the difference in the shape of the ears?

The ear in the photo is also "fuzzed out" at the bottom and the forelock actually travels over rather than around it.

You probably have the forelock travelling over it as well, it's just hard to see in the image.

As I said in my previous message, don't sweat it. It's fine!

Hi Sculpi,
What a cute little pony! I love the colours and his mane and tail. There is a real fantasy feeling to this painting. Sometimes subjects like this are created during emotional times - I hope things are improving for you now.
