I usually use HB and 2B Koh I Noor pencils/Derwent pencils on Canson sketch 9x12 and was wondering if there are better pencils for drawing animals and if better paper would improve my drawings?

I also enjoy pencil drawing. I find that a larger range of pencils is more useful. You can only go so dark with a 2B pencil and this can mean your drawings can lack punch when you want to show strong contrast or depict sunlight. However i'ts easy to use too much dark and end up with a black smudgy mess (I know i've done it http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/biggrin.gif )
Try a 4B and use it just in your dark areas, keep on with 2B & HB in the lighter bits. Have you thought of using a coloured paper and drawing with say black charcoal and a white pastel pencil? This can be real fun to do and gives great highlights and shadows. Conte crayons are also real fun -somewhere between full colour and monochrome if you want a little more colour but don't want to go the whole hog.
Paper is another matter - You call things by different names in your part of the world http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif Best see if you can get a sample pack of different papers from a good supplier and see what suits - it's amazing the difference a different paper makes to a drawing
hope this is useful - keep on drawing!
