i am writing an art history paper. but i'm having trouble finding research materials. i'm writing a comparison about the depiction of enemies dealing with the 'dying trumpeter (gaul)' and 'the palette of narmur'. i've had no trouble with 'dying trumpeter' but i haven't found much one the egyptian piece.

http://www.artcyclopedia.com/ is pretty good... but it doesn't have much on ancient art.. most of it's info starts around the renassance.

For future reference, "Masters of Illusion" is a great video by the National Gallery of Art. It describes the invention of linear perspective and focuses upon what the Renaissance Artists did with this invention.

I have to agree that Artcyclopedia http://www.artcyclopedia.com/index.html is a good site. In my opinion, it is the best springboard for your search on almost any artist or movement. Type what you are looking for in the search box or scroll down to chose from the large selection of art history related topics.

You can click on their side bar for more links that lead to even more info. My suggestion when you can't find a particular movement or era is to try a museum link and see where they can link you. I bet you can even link to Mod Squad's LINK, or link to learn more about Art LINKletter, or to Home Depot to find a good deal on a chainLINK fence.

Once you are at the topics main page you'll find several links to more sites you may find interesting. Even Thomas Kinkade has a link to his very own home page where, oooooooo like we care, you can apply for a Visa card with one of his retina burning paintings on it. Course, Artcyclopedia doesn't have anything to say about him except to go to the Painter of Light's own web page.

Don't go near the light Carol Ann.

I think the name is mostly commonly spelled as "Narmer", if it is the same pharaoh in question. A query through any search engine reveals results such as these. Hope they'll help. (And having established him to be from ancient Egyptian history, you may have better luck looking through specific sites e.g. Egyptology or Egyptian art-based sites.) Good luck with your paper.
