Now, I'm not the moderator for this forum, Darrell is, but I just HAD to post a hearty welcome to those from the Guild that have decided to check out the WC community.

I hope Darrell will forgive me!

I am VERY glad to see the Art Guild coming on board here. We just don't have enough equine artists to get a proper critique on our work.

If you are brave sort or want to improve your techniques or conformation, there is a Critiques Forum where people can post their work and have it critiqued by other artists. We really could use some expert equine voices in there. The critics are a pretty gentle lot, but if you hesitant about posting your own work, some words of wisdom would be nice to hear. There's always something I did you can brutually tear apart http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif

I would really appreciate some words of wisdom on the Friesian I posted in there -- a few members are all for having me flare his nostrils. On any other breed I'd probably have done it already, but from all the pictures I've seen of Fries horses, I've not seen many with their nostrils flaring unless they are under a lot of strain. I'm not a Friesian expert, but IMHO it stands to reason that this is due to their cold-blooded breeding -- they should be more calm and easy-going than other breeds.

What say the wise ones? Flare or no flare?

OK WHERE is this Equine Art Guild? This sampling of their artwork is such a tease! I am so excited and inspired!

P.S. went out yesterday shooting horse reference photos. All horses are wooly bears this time of year here. But a nice spring-like day had them all out and feeling frisky.

Barbara, The EAG is a great group of Equine artist who openly support eachother. It's membership is open to all levels of talent so check us out and join up. We have our own public forum where we discuss everything from critiques, to art as a business and even who is having babies in the group. The group includes seasoned artists who have been around the block, a number of very talented sculptors, and some who just want to improve their art. We even have a few Jr. members. The address to the forum is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/equineart

Pat, I'm a tad confused. This eGroup has been going since 1998, but the web site had a message board for a while. Was the board in addition to the listserv or a replacement?

You know, I thought you had to be a paid member to access the list. Didn't realize it was open and non-paying.

Both boards are open to the public so anyone can post and receive messages as long as they sing up to do so. (Free)Yahoo requires you to log in as a yahoo user. The message board at the EAG site has been aded since Sheri redesigned it. It is not as popular as the egroup and I do not believe it is to replace it. Now, the old Equine art webring will eventially come down. Yahoo messed some things up and can't seem to straighten it out so Sheri has created another called the Equine art gateway. If you are a member of the Equine Art Webring, I suggest that you sign up for the new one which can be accessed at the EAG website www.equineartguild.com. (http://www.equineartguild.com.) It too is open to the public.. I hope this isn't too confusing to everyone. I also wish this little window was bigger as I can hardly see my mistakes. What a terrible typstyle! Sure don't see that I can change it either.
