Like the kitten, this is also in progress. Would I be correct in thinking there might be a little too much empty space above the head?
Next step is to start stroking in the hair. So far it is just mushed in there with a ratty brush.

Beautiful Bev! Retriever? I love the face! But I do agree with too much space above the head. If you play with it on your screen, you will see it looks much better with less space above!

Warmth,
ReNae

Bev, http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/eek.gif I like the dogs eyes and the rest of his face! I do agree that there is too much space above his head. GREAT JOB SO FAR http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I agree about the space, but, OH THAT COAT!

It looks so soft, and his facial look is so soft. I just wanna bury my face in that coat and give him a HUGE hug!

Thankyou all.
I will simply saw off the top of the board to fix it, but I was really only thinking of the dog itself. I wasn't paying attention to composition, although I should, shouldn't I?
(I'm too impatient, and when the mood strikes to paint something, I throw all the rules out the window) http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/wink.gif

Now, for heaven's sake, nobody start another animal project until I finish these two! http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/wink.gif

The dog is beautiful!! Instead of cutting out the open space why not add something. The dog looks like he is looking at someting, you could paint an object or a bird or something on the far right...it could even be something that is not completely viewable, going off the edge of the canvas.

Hi Elizabeth
Thankyou for your comments. Um, paint something else? If I really thought I could, I would. I am afraid I would wreck it. Easier to cut off an inch and a half of the board. (I'm lazy- and not all all confident)

The finished piece is now posted on the main crititque board. I cropped it where I will be cutting the board, so you can see how it looks without that empty space.

Oh I love the dog. You have captured the look so well. He has such a happy look on his face. I see on your picture by your posts that you have a cockatoo? I have a goffin cockatoo named Nakita-from the Elton John song-She is about 25 or so and is a real sweety.

THankyou, Becky for your nice comments. Many years ago I had a golden, and I think they are my favourite breed.
Yes, the photo is of our goffins, Belle. She is 5, and a brat. LOL
We adore her! We also have a male 7 year old umbie.
I've discovered quite a few parrot lovers here at WC!
