Acrylic, 8x10 masonite. I decided to try out one of the projects, and here is my first cat. I am not finished, but your comments are welcome. The rear leg looks more like a tail right now. Problem is, it is cropped in the photo so I'll have to work on getting it to look right.
I suppose I should actually go sign up for the project, huh? I figured I'd see how I was doing before embarrassing myself by not having something worth entering. http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/wink.gif

Here is the next update. Still lots to do, but the cat now lays on carpet. http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/wink.gif
Directional fur isn't easy, is it? Leg looks even more like a tail in this one. I'll have to work on that tomorrow. In the photo, only the head was focused, the rest was blurred out somewhat. I've warmed up the colours, and added a reflection of the green to the bottom of the jaw. A little too pronounced, I think, but I ran out of daylight to see well enough to continue. Tomorrow...

Hi Bev http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif
I am fighting the flu so don't ezpect much from me tonight lol It's amazing how a shadow will ground an object isn't it?
I think you are coming along fine...2 points strike me though...the centering of the subject and the way the line of the head blends into her hindquarters. I think it would have been better if the back portion of the cat was off to the right a bit. Perhaps the hind legs even going out of the painting. I find her a bit isolated there in the middle. What do you think?...and remember I am looking through a fog here tonight.lol
hope this is a help and not a hinderance http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif
Hope you feel better soon Darrell!
You know, the photo did have the hind leg cropped, and I didn't know if it would be good compostion to have a leg running off the canvas like that...
So, I centered the cat. duh.
There IS a cat toy to come, so maybe I can do something with that to help.
Would adding some light to the body behind the head work? Or should I move the body over. Or should I just shave a couple of inches off the board with my trusty scrollsaw? http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/wink.gifThanks Darrell!
