I spend every Monday and Thursday morning with a group of ladies (all over 50) swimming and aerobic exercising. One of our number will be 80 in a couple of weeks time and we wanted a special birthday card from the group so this is what I have come up with.

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/24-Oct-2002/Elsie.jpg

I started off with one of my own watercolours, photographed it and took it into Corel Photopaint.

I then took photographs of all the members of the group openned the photo and cropped just the head to make a new photo. I used Edit, Copy and then closed the original photo without saving changes and used Edit, Paste as New Object to superimpose the head shot onto the original photo of the watercolour. I then highlighted the superimposed object and used the eraser tool with Soft Edges to rub out the remaining background in the small square around the head allowing the details from the original watercolour to show through. I had to repeat this process for each member of the group's photo.

Once I was totally happy with the size and position of each photograph within the photograph I used the Combine Objects with Background.

I then Used the Artistic Text Tool to add the wording.

Joy,

You just gave me an idea. I used to do collages -- inspired by Max Ernst. Why didn't it dawn on me to use PhotoShop for that purpose. It would be perfect.

Well, I'm off to try to find my old negatives. I'll probably be working with a scanner this evening.

Thanks. Almost forgot to say nice card. It always means so much more when it is personalized like that.

Very nice work. Collage is wonder in Photoshop. Very easy to use layers and sub folders to keep the size down and blending of the photographs works well with the luminosity and darken blend modes. :cat:

Joy, it looks terrific and I'm sure it's going to fill the bill perfectly.

Thank you SO very much for taking the time to give us the steps that you took to get the finished product. (I have Corel PhotoPaint, too...:D I really didn't realize until today exactly how much graphic editing software I *do* have...hee hee hee and DUH!!!)
