Run For The Roses

Verse 1

Born in the valley and raised in the trees
Of Western Kentucky on wobbly knees,
With mama beside you to help you along
You'll soon be a-growing up strong.
All the long, lazy mornings in
pastures of green The sun on your
withers, the wind in your mane,
could never prepare you for what
lies ahead The run for the roses so red.

And it's run for the roses as
fast as you can Your fate is
delivered, your moment's at
hand. It's the chance of a
lifetime in a lifetime of chance,
and it's high time you joined in
the dance. It's high time you
joined in the dance.

Verse 2

From sire to sire,
it's born in the blood.
The fire of a mare and
the strength of a stud.
It's breeding and it's
training and it's something
unknown, that drives you and
carries you home.

All compositions by Dan Fogelberg (1979-81/Hickory Grove Music-ASCAP) except "Empty Cages" (Music by D. Fogelberg, N. Putnam, M. Utley and R. Kunkel; lyrics by D. Fogelberg)

Wonderful song and a super great guy! As for the horses in KY... the most beautiful horses I have ever seen and OMG the farms they are raised on...well I would do well to live in the barn some day!:D

Thank you all so much! Daniel Fogelberg has always been one of my favorites. His story songs just have a way of reaching into your heart and mind and taking you to the place he is singing about. I'm very happy you liked it!

:D So pretty Cheryl!
love the star and wreath with the bands of light.
Funny, I was thinking of Dan Fogleberg yesterday regarding the song "Tiny Dancer"....Jan Michael's post earlier "tiny dancer"....
But, wasn't sure if it was Dan Fogelberg or Elton John who wrote/performed that song.
