I posted this in critiques. It lasted about 2 hours...lol... Well, Darrell started a good discussion in Watercolor about whether or not acrylics painted in watercolor techniques might not be more appropriate in a watercolor forum. (He has a beautiful acrylic in there btw) Decided my corn belonged there after reading his post. But it was not accepted by all watercolorists there as belonging in that forum. As this IS the acrylic forum, I really would like your!! opinion on this. The discussion going on is whether the watercolor forum should be a watermedia forum. I can see the point of watercolorists who don't want acrylics in there. Not all acrylics are painted in a transparent way. It just happens, that mine are. So, what's your opinion? Do you like a separate acrylic forum? I am totally confused myself.

Victoria, there has been some discussion in the watercolor forum about where a transparently painted acrylic should be posted. I had been leaning towards thinking it belonged in the watercolor forum. But, I have gone back and forth between these two forums, reading different opinions, and have come to change my mind from what it was a couple days ago. I think that basically, people who do just watercolor, aren't interested in the problems of acrylic, and vice versa. They have much in common, but they are different, too. ---Jane

I like the painting, Jane.

While I don't see what harm there could be in posting an acrylic painting done in "the watercolor way" in the watercolor forum, I do think that a separate acrylics forum is necessary. After all, some people paint only with acrylics, and it would be time-consuming (and maybe not worth it) to wade through all of the watercolor postings when you're really only interested in acrylics. It's not the same thing. I use acrylics more like I would use oil paints. Is somebody talking about closing down the acrylics forum??

Hello Jane's corn again!

I really love the way you paint transparently with the acrylics, Jane!

As to where it ought to be posted...I don't see a problem with posting in either or both forums for acrylics and watercolors. You are right about the mediums offering different problems for the artists! I just wish I could get one of them to cooperate with me!

BEAUTIFUL! it seems many people don't realize that acrylics can be used in this way. I often use thinned acrylics as the finishing touches on watercolors where I need some opacity.

Jane, I really find art funny. It worries too much about classifying things! If you've submitted to both and got SOME feedback then why worry? Just carry on doing such good art, have fun, and mix thick or wash thin as the subject dictates... Vegetables are great fun. SO many colours, such direct shapes, so many compositional possibilities.:)
