View Full Version : first attempt at dragon painting
Hi y'all,
I'm new to this forum, usually hang out in Plein Aire. I had a chance to do a dragon for the guy who makes my website; kind of a barter trade. He hasn't seen it yet. I thought I'd get some input from some experts first. All suggestions welcome, as this is new to me. :D
Thanks!

It looks great to me! It's a fascinating image you've created, with the smoke and fiery colors, it looks almost like the dragon is in a volcano. And the dragon istelf is wonderful, I like the scales effect you've achieved, and the long claws are neat.
Well done!

Very nice Ruth, very powerful composition. As everyone said before me, the scales, claws, and background are great. He appears to have just arived, in a swirl of smoke.

Oh Ruth! You need to do more fantasy work :D This dragon with the background of that turbulent sky is wonderful. I gave up on acrylics a long time ago, but you have really shown how that medium can be manipulated. I love the misty look you achieved. One of my favorite parts of the dragon though is (and don't laugh) is that tail! It seems to go on forever, and I would hate to be lashed by something that far reaching and strong......lol

:D OOOOOO! I like it! Rough and gutsy! Love that left back toenail, how it is caught on a rock upskewed!

Hey, welcome to the forum!!! It must be a tad different going from en plein aire to our funky little mystical world. You can totally see the aire-ness to this piece, which gives it such an interesting feeling. Your colours are georgious, and yey! You gave him scales. I'm so happy now :cat: Great work, your friend will love it!
:D Thank you all so much for your warm welcome and kind comments! I had a lot of fun doing this dragon, and will probably try some more sometime. You'll be the first to see! Thanks again.
