As you know, the WC! community is growing by leaps and bounds. We are currently adding over 1,000 new members a month, and are handling over 2,500 new posts a day on the boards! As such it is becoming increasingly difficult for the moderators to have visibility into everything posted, much less have time for doing interesting things like art projects, articles, etc.
In addition, we wanted to create a way to recognize certain WC! members for their significant contributions to the community, and provide an administrative role for those who wanted to participate more actively in the governance of the WC! site.
The two reasons above are why we created the "WC! Forum Guide" program.
What is a forum guide?
Simply put, a "forum guide" is a WetCanvas! member that works closely with the forum moderators to assure that his or her forum is inviting, active and an asset to the community as a whole by:
assisting new members
fostering lively discussion
adding threads and posts of real substance to promote learning and discussion
encouraging art project participation/creating interesting projects and or chat events
encouraging membership to submit articles to the WC! publisher/submitting articles
etc.
WC! members become guides by nomination from current moderators. Once a guide is on staff, they may become moderators if the need presents itself. If a moderator needs to take a break, step down or become an advisor, a guide may be called upon to assume the duties of a moderator. Once a guide becomes a moderator, they will no longer be a guide, but instead be a full-fledged forum moderator.
Not all forums have guides - only the ones that garner a significant amount of traffic.
The moderators, lead by Llis (WC! Mom!), have spent countless hours putting this program together, contacting and communicating with the initial list of nominees, etc. The result? Our first ever WC! Forum Guides - congrats to them all!
