Hi...I wasn't quite sure where to post this so I hope I'm posting in the right place.

I have been planning on heading back to college for my MFA. I currently have a BS in Marketing with 2 years of Fine Arts study (I transferred to business from Art School my Jr. Year). I have been looking for information on the requirements for becoming an Art Teacher. Ideally I'd like to work at a college level, but I'm not sure how realistic that is considering I'm 35 and wouldn't complete my Masters until I was 39/40 (I have two toddlers and will head back to college when they start kindergarten)

Does anyone have any info on the process of becoming a college art professor?? Am I being unrealistic??

TIA for your help!!

Kim

Hi,

I've been teaching watercolor for about 8 years now through adult education and my own private classes. I believe that you have chosen a much more difficult route. Not that it is impossible, but with a family, it would be extremely hard to find the time to take classes and paint. Also, at the end of the road is all of the competition from those who have painted 25 years and those who have a master's in art from some renowned art institute. If you really want to teach, find 2 or 3 people that will take lessons from you at your house. Charge about $10 per class. You will soon see it you have what it takes to teach painting. You may still want to go to school, but "try the shoe on before you buy it and take it home" is my suggestion.
