I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing this lovely dog before painting him. Soft Pastel on Clairefontaine Pastelmat 12x8 inches.
And finally the finished portrait.

Very nice! His owner will no doubt be thrilled with this - you definitely captured a happy, smiling dog there :). You did an amazing job giving him a nose that looks like it would cold and wet if you touched it.
Thanks for sharing the photos of your process as well.

Love this and as Barb said "better than a photo!"
At first I thought he was going to be a black lab. I had one that got very gray in the face at a very young age. i don't have her anymore but my kids have said she i fully gray in the face now:)
But you have done a beautiful job.
Don't you just love pastelmat?

This is incredible! The dog has so much personality and the fur is amazing. Did you use any pastel pencil in creating him?

Brilliant portrait Mark! Stan looks like a great character. Was sure I'd commented on this....and I have, but not here!

When I scrolled to Barb's first comment, I wanted to say, "No Barb, much better than a photograph!" Then I saw her second comment. :) I'm sure the owner will be thrilled, and you should get many more commissions from this one.
Thanks for the wip. It is always fun and informative to see how someone proceeds through their painting.
