View Full Version : Hello! and sketch

Hello everybody! I didn't know that this forum exists. I paint in watercolor and draw in ink, normally all together. And I like to do sketches in my sketchbooks when I travel or go to the mountains. I'll love to see your works and show some of mines.
I post here one that I did in the delta of Ebro River. It was late summer and lots of mosquitos. There were people in the beach looking for seafood. Ink and watercolor http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/16-Jun-2010/7220-delta1.jpg

Sorry I forgot the size and type. It is a 21 x 15 sketchbook, watercolor Studio paper 350 grs.

Great painting! Is that size in centimeters or inches? If that's in inches, it's huge. I love the rich colors, strong values and beautiful textures you achieved in this scene. I also like the fat seafood gatherer for not being physically perfect -- great shading and rounding on the body. Well done!

Thank you Robert! It is in centimeters, a little one.

That's a terrific sketch! I like your figures - you really nailed the action. I smiled at the "chubby" guy up front too.
Welcome, dolors! This forum is fairly new, but is already getting a lot of great journals to follow along. Very nice first post, and hope to see more.

Wonderful pen and watercolour sketch. I love the large man gathering seafood as well.

This is a great picture. The sunlight and shadows are marvelous.

Hello Dolors! This is a wonderful watercolor and ink sketch. I love the scene and you did a great job of handling it. I can feel the summer heat and almost want to slap at the mosquitos! Nice work!

Great watercolor sketch! You've totally captured a day at the shore!

Nice sketch and great highlights there!

Dolors I love your pen and wash work, so I will enjoy seeing your sketchbook! Must admit, I too had a chuckle looking at the belly on the main figure - you captured the light to describe it so well!!!

I too like the way you've caught the foreground figure :)

Thank you for your comments. Another one of the beach, but this was done in winter. http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Jul-2010/7220-platja.jpg

Wow. The textures in this one are fantastic. I love those clouds, the clouds are gorgeous. Excellent loose strokes on the fisherman, that's so simple and so effective. Great near vegetation too. I like how you leave these sparkles of white to give everything so much contrast, it's great.

That's a terrific sky! I love wet-in-wet skies. And that slight backrun for the wave is perfect.

Love that sky. Definitely winter clouds.

I like very much going to the mountains, so my sketchbook is full of drawings from the excursions I do with my friends. These two are an example. A natural arch with the path inside and a view of a little town from the top of the mountain, both of the same day. Both ink and watercolor. Thank you for looking.

very nice dolors, you must have a wonderful collection of sketchbooks by now?!

love your choice of colour

That second beach scene is awesome. Totally love the colours in the sky. Stunning work. The mountain sketches are stunning as well. You have a great sense of colour and depth.

Dolors, these are incredible. I love the arch in the rocks, that one totally grabs me. The view of the town in the valley is good too, but that dramatic arch gets me by subject as well as brilliant painting. Well done! I'm going to have to improve my outdoor sketching.

WOW! Love the arch sketch. Looking down into the town is awesome. Brilliant.

Great sketches, but the one of the man fishing on the beach is superb. Wonderful wet in wet sky!

Thank your for your comments! I appreciate them very much.
This is still wet! it is from yesterday morning. I went with a painter friend to the Ebro's Delta again. I had only a pen and a tube of payne's grey watercolor, and my little sketchbook. We found these old boats and a fisherman with his old car. The heat was horrible.
07-15-2010, 08:34 PM
The heat may have been horrible, but your sketch is wonderful!
07-15-2010, 10:58 PM
This is gorgeous! Payne's Grey is a beautiful monochrome color, much richer and more evocative than pure neutral black. Your values are spot on and the composition is exciting. Everything's so accurate too, the boats and the old car are gorgeous.

Those last three sketches are terrific! I love the rock arch, and the view of the town. The monochromatic is well done also.
