This tiny humming bird sits on a dead branch on an elm tree off our deck. He is very vibrant and looks metalic when the sun shines on him. He appears to be no bigger than a quarter from the front. I think my drawing makes him look much larger than he really is. For one thing, the paper is large, so he is larger than RL, but the maple tree in the bg also looks small therefore making him look big.

It's not finished and I will play with the bg and hopefully get him to pop.
It's prismas and the paper is 14x17. Not sure how big it will be when I get tired of it and just quit.

Scale certainly isn't an issue with this viewer. Like your colors and especially the texturing on the branch and background limb. Good start here.

Nice! I like the way you made him the focal point and balanced everything around him. This is gorgeous. I don't think scale is a problem, I've seen them and have a good idea how small they are so my mind reads the bird as small and the context as complex.

Very nice, I love all the details in the trunk and leaves. Nice colors in the hummingbird also! If you want to make him pop, try adding white highlights to the feet. Looking forward to seeing more! :)

Lovely work. You are so lucky to see a Hummingbird that isnt a blur.Seems they are always moving and flitting around so fast.:)

Hi there, Carol! So glad to see you're still using that avatar (your niece???) made for you!

He is looking beautiful. I think once you detail up the branch he's perched on, your scale issue will be resolved.

Nice to see you stopping back here, Carol. I don't think scale is an issue, necessarily. His body may be a little too plump, but he definitely reads as a hummingbird. I've got two busy couples dining at my feeder.

You surely have a good handle on his vibrant colors. Waiting to see the final piece.
