WDE May 21: Yosemite as never before!

A quick pen sketch 7.5" x 10", 15 mins while enjoying some fresh air!

Planning to add inks or w/colours but then scanned sketch ...

and...

...then decided to add outrageous colour for Marianne - a bit of fun, definitely not serious, using Painter Essentials 3. (About another hour/half).

So I still have the sketch to treat a little more seriously! :lol:

I've actually seen it look very much like that there when the sun is setting on the fall foliage so not all that outrageous! Kind of beautiful too.

Well, I would love to seeing it look this way. Reminds me of th Robin Williams movie about heaven - his wife was an artist. Can't remember the name but this is what heaven looked like in the movie.

Both are Wonderful. The quiet simplicity of the sketch and the explosive colors of the painting. Can't wait to see the "outrageous" one. Hmmm.

Maureen, your pen sketch is breathtaking. I love the detail and accuracy, the foliage texture and graceful lines. Your digi with outrageous color pops off the page and makes sense in a mad colorful way, because the underlying sketch is so strong it still reads true like pop art. The lighting's not quite consistent -- on the mountain it comes from the right, on the trees it comes from the left, so that also adds to the surreal atmosphere. If the snow on the mountain was a rosy pink it'd be a consistent sunset.

Robert - such a thoughtful comment, thank you! You're right, I made no concessions to reality with lighting! It's all over the place ...... of course, with that sky, the valley should be in shadow!;)

Re: "no concessions to reality." I always love digis and yours comes with a motto for the artistic life: "Make no concessions to reality." Not only is the color fantastic, but you've handled it in a way that looks like water media rather than pixels. An excellent accomplishment! ~ Marianne
