Just want to tip people off. I recieved this in my email:

Dear Sir/Madam,
This is to remind you that we have already filed a case against you on 12/04/2010.
The pre-trial conference is to be held on 9/05/2010 at 9:00 AM in courtroom number 142.
The case number is 2433901. I am enclosing a copy of the lawsuit that we filed against you on 12/04/2010.

We need a reply in writing and on time. We have already won similar lawsuits. If you make sure
you'll contact us before 5/05/2010 at 18:00 PM and you agree to the terms mentioned above,
you shall not have to appear in court.

Yours sincerely,

Info Security (https://infosecurity.us/?p=13452)has an article about it. the one I was sent above had an attachment, which I did NOT open. I immediately did a search and saw that this is a fairly new scam.

Scammers are so creative. If only they'd use their powers for good . . .

Thank you for this alert, Alfreda... It would be easy for an artist to fall into this trap.

yes,it's an issue that concerns many of us, and someone's curiosity might have got the better of them. The ambiguity of the email was a red flag to start with, but the fact that they sent it to an email address for the chamberpot gallery (which is in a local restroom) was laughable.

I got one sent to my business email.

*Any* offcial communication from a law office is going to come in the old fashioned paper post mail. So I hit delete.

I feel bad for the law firm who's identity has been stolen for this scam.

Agreed, any proper legal documentation will never come via email.

Why do they need a reply in writing if they haven't sent you the court summons or case number in writing? ;)

Tina.

As always, thanx 4 the heads up for those who don't know that e-mail is NOT a legal document for lawsuits. If it looks suspicious DELETE!
