I can't believe that I get to start the thread, and with a cross-post from mixed media, of all things! I want you guys to know about this very cool new material.

My daughter introduced me to a new silicone product called rubber glass. It's pretty amazing stuff: pourable, moldable, soft and flexible...no sharp edges, even though it looks like it. You can read more about it here (http://www.beading-arts.com/2010/05/fascinating-new-material-to-wor-k-with.html), and here's one of the pieces I made with it:

Being able to get the look of broken glass without the safety issues or the weight? Pretty amazing, huh?

How amazing is that. Love the piece, is it lighter than glass?

Thanks guys! I feel like there is so much more that this stuff could be used for, in both wearable art and in mixed media :)

I did a bit more work in the forge this week... I'm playing with some gemstones, now that I have setting them down :). All of them are hand forged from Stainless steel, in a coal fired forge-

Very very cool, Andrew! I especially love the setting you did for the black onyx, the curvier design :)

Cindy - wow, that's fascinating, I would never have guessed it was anything but glass.

Andrew - cool rings, I especially like the first two, I love that texture!

I love the cast iron rings! Especially the first one... the texture is perfect.

Errr... I meant wrought iron, I guess? Sorry. I don't know the proper term, I just know they're really nice. Also, sorry for the double post!
