Hi All, I am going on holidays to the coast for 3 weeks from tomorrow.
I would very much like to be a regular contributor on the forum, as i initially voted a big YES to having a separate journal forum.
already i am seeing some lovely work and creativity here.
well i am packing the art supplies in the bag, and making a commitment to have some work to show when i get back!!!! theres graphite pencils, coloured pencils, watercolor pencils, watercolour paint, brushes etc....i think i have enough supplies to explore with.:smug:
I havent done a journal before, at least not regularly, and over the last couple of years have really felt a need to explore this seriously. so that is what i will do.
over the next few weeks i want to explore different mediums and techniques, and HAVE FUN. For too long now i have been 'scared to use the supplies'....well now i am going to start. I guess i am hoping that you journal people will understand where i am coming from, and understand i need to commit myself to start....and submit some of my work!!!
so i will see you in early June, and introduce you to my new journal, which i havent named yet, but will be something along the lines of FRESH STARTS, any title suggestions....
thanks in advance

I look forward to seeing your holiday sketches Janine.

Make a resolution to do a sketch every place you go.

Janine, have fun with it! Make it a book for yourself and your memories, without pressure to show every single page. You can pick and choose what you post to your journal thread, so don't let that dissuade you from experimenting, or doing quick sketches that you might not want to share. I'm looking forward to seeing it when you return, whatever you decide to show.

I made a point of sketching my holiday in Italy (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=499583&highlight=Italy) and it was really good fun.

Janine, that sounds fantastic! I'm really looking forward to it. You're going somewhere I've never been to places extremely beautiful that I wish I were there. So everything you post is going to be exciting and exotic to me even if it's ordinary to you. Have fun with it!

One thing that can work is sketching very fast in pencil without any details, then adding the ink and color either on the spot or later. Or sketching fast with watercolor pencils and then washing afterward, you have some good quick mediums there. Enjoy your holiday, I know I will once you get back!

Doug, i actually saw the journal you did of your trip. i really love your style. your journal actually inspired me to get out there and have a go.
Jamie, Alfreda and Robert, so kind of you to respond and encourage this endeavour. i know i will have fun with it....i still havent packed so better get back to it and stop trying to work out whether i will need this or that, i have enough packed to more adequately cater to my needs and give me something to play with....so thanks again to each of you
kind of funny i suppose, for many it seems to be a bit of a problem to just get in and start using those supplies.
great forum, see you soon.

Oh boy, Janine, I can't wait to see what you've done when you get back. Hope you have a fantastic trip. My advice is just enjoy yourself and PLAY. Don't put too much pressure on about the sketching. All work we do in the process of honing our skills is good work.
