Good morning Elaine:wave:

We had a 20 degree drop in temperature yesterday from the day before. Woke up to a nasty storm with lots of thunder and lightning, rain and winds. Luckily we didn't have any of the large (ping pong ball size:eek:) hail that was reported not far from Vicksburg. Ouch, that could cause some damage. By 9:30 the sun was out, no clouds and you couldn't even tell we just had a storm. Cool again today.

I invited myself to have lunch out today, don't know where but someone else is doing the cooking.:D

HMD ya'll.

Busy day in the studio. Found my bookcase and have access to my books once more. The trash men are going to not be pleased with me tomorrow. I have a substantial pile of destroyed canvases and stretcher bars.

The morning glories have finally taken and are now starting to grow up the new fence. Corn is starting to grow some rather handsome ears now. Picked a large cucumber last night, now for cucumbers in vinegar with onions. YUM.

Have an eggplant started to set fruit as well. Things are moving along now. Picked a yellow tomato last night. A bit early but if I don't the birds get them.

It was overcast most of the day here and HUMID but I was able to work in the garden a couple of hours this morning. Did some weeding, mulched my zinnias, repotted a Hibiscus ... but I'm weeks behind Howard! I hope to finish my "Gaillardia" painting this week because I have a paper to write on Indianola hurricanes, two powerpoint programs to prepare by the end of June and I'm also assisting with a Korean War Conference that will be held here June 24-26.

05-10-2010, 07:20 AM
Holy smokes, where did that weekend go?

lost power on Saturday at about 2:30 and it never came back on until 3:30 in the morning! and it was DAMN cold! we have a generator, but when I got it running , things in the house, weren't running right, so I didn't run it long,, Mark came home at 10 PM and figured out there was a circuit on the generator that had tripped off. at some point.
didn't lose any fridge stuff, or and fingers to frostbite,, LOL
so all was good.. what I DID do, though,, was when the mail got here, I was reading it by the window, and read an add for a drafting table in a classified paper, I was surprised to see it had a local number with it, so, I texted a friend to see who it was, the number was unlisted.. hmm,, okay, so here is a strange, one,, she googled the number, and it came up as to who it was and their address,, weird,, huh? anyway, it came to be, that my sister knows this person, so I called her and went to see it and bought it,, 60 bucks,, woohoo, will post a pic when I can get one, was bummed, brought it home and it was too dark in the basement to put it back together! so, now I am trying to figure out where to stick it.. space, lighting, all that jazz.

Hope all the mothers here had a good day yesterday, Mark and I went to church, came home, I left for work, then when I was done at the motel, I had to do a funeral home call,(work), then came home and took the dog out for her poopie walk,, LOL then started supper,, man, the day went zooming by!
Mark made the salad and cleaned up the dishes,, oh,, I DID get a call from my son,, as we drove into the garage, the phone rang, so I stood out in the garage and chatted with him till I about froze my toes off,, was so good to hear from him. I DO miss that kid. ( smartest thing we did, was put a phone out there)
had a frost last night and it looks like tonight too.. gonna have sunshine today and the high is only going to be in the 50's,, brrr,, perhaps we ALREADY had our summer? I sure hope not!
Really outa get a move on here, must get ready for work,, gonna wrap up Nicky and take him with me today, to deliver.. got a nervous tummy on this one..

05-10-2010, 09:41 AM

Happy Belated Mother's Day y'all. We didn't do much, called my Mom of course, Jon had talked to his mom on Saturday (that's when we had her flowers delivered, figured that way she could enjoy them all weekend). Just a nice relaxing weekend. He was supposed to go to Ohio today but he got called on Saturday and told to cancel his flight, they needed him in town. I was mixed on that one. heheh Love having him home, but I wouldn't have had to cook all week with him gone. :p

Goodness, you made up for me not doing anything all weekend, Mary!

Howard, stuff is just popping up all over there, isn't it?

05-10-2010, 05:30 PM
Quick hi to all!! Kat I so can relate...so nice to NOT have to cook when Bob is gone...or at least not to 'his standards'....but then I miss him....catch 22 I guess!

Howard your garden looks yummy!

Hi all. I spent the afternoon setting up bills to pay in the Bill Pay feature of my bank. I have been paying my bills electronically since Managing Your Money came out in the late 80s. I switched to Quicken when the Windows operating system burst on the scene. All this time I have used Quicken, loving it.

BUT, now I have a MacBook and the new Mac version of Quicken doesn't do electronic transactions. Probably because Quicken now has an online bill pay system that they charge for by the month. So...while I signed up for free Bill Pay with my bank quite some time ago, today I finally set up all my bills to be paid there, and to have some of the bills go directly into the payment center, so they will be sitting there waiting for me when I get a reminder from the bank that they have arrived.

Modern life. If you fear this technology, you are really missing out. It sure beats the writing checks/licking stamps lifestyle.

We were so happy that we had gotten THROUGH the whole month of April with no seizures with Princess only for her to have one today... argh,, we caught it in time for the rescue remedy to stop it before it got full blown, thank goodness.. my poor baby.. :(

So, we are grilling pork chops, the gas runs out, Princess has a seizure and Mark is on the phone with his sister and she is telling him, her husband's tumor in his brain is getting larger,, sigh.. That was not such a great moment for us.. but,, got the new gas tank hooked up, ate our supper, got Princess out fo the seizure,, if only we could get BIL rid of the tumors,, we would be all set.

Hi Gang  just got back from Baltimore. I was at a meeting on immunology there. I learnt a lot, especially about skin immunity. The only question I have is "why do they insist on running scientific meetings over the weekends?" Waste of a weekend of you ask me.

But I did get to the Aquarium :D Note to self, if I ever go there again, don't go to the Aquarium on the weekend. It is as crowded as hell.

05-10-2010, 09:06 PM
Evening Everyone,

Sorry to hear all that Mary, will keep your brother-in-law in my prayers.

Hey Sue, Kat.... Ah yes not to have to cook LOL I've been having some success with Larry of late tho...ordering out, going out, visiting my friends..haha going to my daughters for dinners, my son's, but then he'll go grocery shopping with me and I'm screwed he knows there's food in them thar hills...hahaha Hope you two are feeling better. Hugs galore coming your way.

Shirl, I just finished scheduling all my bills for this month, I love the option to do it online with my bank. No charges and all these years no problems either.
Most arrive at their destination faster then if I did mail them. The post office here sends them down the line to a place called Westchester, then back to Poughkeepsie, right across the river, then out to where they are going,, ars backwards to me takes five days, online it's either the next day or no more then two...hahaha And yes going to the post office is a pain, I'm with ya girl.
Less the computer breaks down then I'm uh going to the PO...

Today was yet another visit to a doctor, couple of sonograms and all is well.
I keep asking when I'm going to feel the lower right side of my face again..it takes a while is what I get, but least can feel my earlobe to put my earring in..so I'm getting there I guess...  Still hanging a bit on that side of my neck but then I'm saggin' everywhere so....:D Karlie sent me a youtube video, with all that's been going on she gave me the flip side of it...Barbara Striesand singing "I'm Still Here"..and so I am...  Karlie's a smart girl.

Howard I can smell those wonderful tomatoes, ahhh ones that don't smell or taste like cardboard. All your hard work is paying off..

Hi to Kathie, Carol welcome home, Maureen, Ruthie, Bell, Dee, Sharon, Robert, Raymo, Kathrin, Linda, Patti too!!

Have a good rest of your night everyone, I will see you tomorrow.

Hugs all round,

05-10-2010, 09:33 PM
Thanks Elaine. :(

05-10-2010, 10:01 PM
Hi all!!
Howard, I agree with Susan, YUMMY!!
Mary, sorry about Princess and Your BIL!! ((HUGS))
Shirl, sounds like you had a busy Day, are your eyes crossed yet??
Carol, welcome home, glad you learned something at least so it wasn't a total waste of time!!
Elaine, glad to hear things are improving!

Went and had my mammo and my Bone Density today along with a trip to the mall for gift for my DIL and daughter for mothers day, just a day late for DIL.
also went to a specialty store and was fitted properly for sneaker and sandle for my feet with just the right support I need! and hopefully will not get worse again! we shall see in two wks. The sandles I got I must wear the minute I put my feet on the ground in the am and yeah like Susan said. NO Bare feet or my old sandles../sigh. Hopefully it will work, cost me enough!!

back to the easel, have a good nite all!!

05-10-2010, 10:36 PM
Hi folks:

We're all back home now... dog arrived on the same plane, luggage did not... sigh...that arrived on Sunday.

Mary, I hope your BIL gets well soon, my neighbour is waiting for her surgery for a tumour she has behind the eyes. She's now fourth on the wait list.

Kat, glad to see you.

Elaine, sorry that the feeling hasn't come back yet.

Hubby got good news today, he's in the zone for promotion and has been offered Staff College. He's going to opt to take the distant learning so he can still do his job. I'm so proud of him.

Bit bummed out right now as my daughter's ship sailed today and we won't see her or the kids for a while. :(

I'm off to see my specialist for the last time tomorrow. Hopefully she can refer me to a colleague out in Alberta. It's a trip up to Ottawa so at least we get s little chance to do some shopping.

Howard, my tulips finally showed up when we were gone as did the phlox and hostas.... all the crab apples are blooming, apple trees and cherry trees... the place actually smells quite nice now... but darn those Carolina Populars are a messy/sticky tree. sheesh the yard is covered with their poofy stuff.

night all... I'm off to catch up on jet lag... laters

05-11-2010, 08:58 AM
Out picking tomatoes and cucumbers this morning. Gave some to the neighbors.

Cucumbers are getting quite large and oh so tasty. This one is about 8" long.

First morning glory.

Dancing lady orchid (oncidium)

This year I have several pots of the oncidium orchid. It was divided last year and they did a fine job since all the divisions have bloomed this year. Sometimes it takes years to recover but they must have divided it just right.

Fig Tree

Morning All,

Howard I sure wish I was one of those neighbors..oh by the way love the little blip at the bottom of your posts....LOL totally agree!! LOL

Hi Bell, thanks it's just me being impatient...haha Sorry bout the luggage but have to say I am glad the dog arrived at the same time, always something tho huh. I'm sure you'll miss seeing your daughter and the kids, hugs they'll keep in touch tho I'm sure, but it's still a bummer.

Morning Mary, Sue, Kat, Sharon, Patti, Raymo my man, Robert, Linda, Ruthie,Maureen, Kathrin, Dee, Carol, Shirl, Kathie hope the "feet" are feeling better, feet hurt and it makes ya cranky all over right, trust me I know..hahaha.

Hope you have a wonderful day all. I'm going to clean up a bit, looking for new rugs, nothing wrong with the old ones haha just don't like them anymore..LOL Today's Jessie's 15th birthday, Devon's next week and I'm just not having one this year...LOL Karlie done with school and coming home too.

Now if the weather would just cooperate would be a perfect day, I have the house to myself..yay, still cold here but sunny.

Okay chore day around the house, see ya all later.

Oh Carol I hung Bob and Bert over the fireplace in the dining room, wow it is so stunning, makes the room. Not sure will leave it there tho, waiting for that system that Howard told me about to arrive, I tend to want to have it in every room I go into I like it close by so I can look at it..hmmm I should just get more huh...LOL I LOVE IT!!!!!!

Now I'm going ..haha

Big hugs all round,

05-11-2010, 12:12 PM
Hi y'all!!

Had a good weekend (even though I had to work  ), got a gift certificate for a pedicure...my daughter likes to pamper me a bit. Might just use it this week. :smug:

Yesterday a package arrived from a friend in Maine....fresh fiddleheads!!! (For those unfamiliar with fiddleheads, here's a link.... http://www.wild-harvest.com/pages/fiddlehead.htm )It was supposed to be delivered Sat & we were so worried that they would be spoiled. My brother had dinner cooked & waiting for me when I got off work last night! I hadn't had fresh fiddleheads for 25 years....they were awesome.

Well, better get a few things done around here before I head to work...see ya!

Lady Carol
05-11-2010, 02:52 PM
I hadn't had fresh fiddleheads for 25 years....they were awesome.
..................and you ate them????

You Americans eat funny things

05-11-2010, 04:25 PM
Fiddleheads are amazing, you don't know what you are missing. Lightly sauteed in butter with a touch of dry white wine, S&P and you have a meal. I like them steamed as well. For me they are right up there with ramps. Not something I would want on a daily basis but when you can get them, they are a treat.

A bit irritated today. I ordered a special pen on Apr 27th, and it has yet to arrive. I have written the company and they are not responding. If there is an issue, tell me about it and I can handle it....just don't ignore me and hope it goes away, it won't. I get tenacious and quite focused when I want to be/need to be.

Warm here today and very humid. 94° outside.

Picked up work from the gallery, got them both home safe and sound. The gallery decided to keep the balance on hand.

Hoping the new windows will be installed either this week or next week. They were to arrive at the warehouse yesterday.

Got some primer and exterior paint today to paint the front of the house. Have some scraping and caulking to do. Would eventually like to have it replaced with the new cement clapboard siding. Supposed to be good forever. Need a good maintenance man. My carpenter skill are far less than stellar.

05-11-2010, 04:31 PM
..................and you ate them????

You Americans eat funny things
Greens are supposed to be good for you... and they are green:D

We've been site seeing... Visited the Vicksburg National Military Park yesterday I took pictures of some of the Ohio memorials. There are so many monuments that it would take forever to photograph all of them and the Ohio monuments were different for each regiment... and more interesting than the other states.:p We also visited the Vicksburg National Cemetery where the Union soldiers are buried... so many lives lost! Here are a couple pictures.

Civil War Monument - 11th Independent Battery, Ohio Light Artillery

Civil War Monument - 16th Independent Battery, Ohio Light Artillery

53d Ohio Infantry Regimental Monument

Today we visited the cemtery where the Confederate soldiers are buried, a very old city cemetery with a section set aside for "soldiers rest". It seemed like it went on forever and the landscape was very hilly.

Now I am going to catch up reading before it is time to cook dinner.

hi's and hugs to everyone out there!

05-12-2010, 08:38 AM
Found a home for my wood easel. So, I can call that gone. Still have to figure out what to do with all the frames. So far I have been able to store them but even that is becoming a bit over whelming.

Seems this process is two steps forward and one to three steps backward......depending on the day.

05-12-2010, 09:12 AM
Morning all,

Carol...LOL LOL no you did not say fat! but......speaking of that Raymo all that dieting what did you finally get down to?

Howard hahaha that's a sight!

Raining here and still chilly, I just got my lavender plants but I'm not sure if I should put them in the ground or not, boy they smell good..haha Almost wishing I could keep them inside!

Got some coffee here and a couple of juices to choose from, not cooking this morning, sorry Raymo my man..haha Not much going on here, should work on the F&B challenge or I will never finish by the due date, I've just been so
distracted lately.

Good Morning Shirl, Kat feeling better I hope, Hey Sue you too girl, Robert where have you been? Morning Ruthie hope the kids behaving better for you, when do you finish? Hi Dee, Patti I saw those on Facebook, great pictures, I took a rubbing of a friends name who lost his life in Viet Nam from the Memorial Wall, all those names, all those lives as well, it's moving.
Hi Maureen, Kathrin, Kathie, Sharon now you've gone missing, Mary, Linda, all the gang.

Have a good day everyone, I will see you later.

Hugs all round,

05-12-2010, 09:20 AM
Out tending the garden this morning. Removed the snow peas, broccoli, and lettuce plants. Let there be room for the cucumbers to expand now. Planted some fennel transplants and hope they take now.
Things are growing and changing. The morning glory is on the new wire fence. So, in short order the whole thing should be covered in flowers. Hope some of the red/scarlet ones made it. So far only blue have shown up but that is almost expected.

05-12-2010, 10:06 AM
Morning folks:

Yum, fiddleheads. All our grocery stores in central and eastern Canada carry them in the spring. While I was clearing out the pantry before we put the house n the market, I found a jar of Fireweed jam and a jar of Saskatoon berry jam that I had forgotten we had. Another yum, both are fab on toast.

Trip to Ottawa was successful and doc is pleased with the progress. Yay!

Another day of rain and cold, so cutting the grass is put over until the lawn dries.

Patti, awesome pics. I have to ask my Arty type friends what the meaning of the draped gun is - I've seen draped and shrouded drums and rifles at a military funeral so that may be the reason.

I'm off to paint for the day... Yay!

Lady Carol

Mornin' y'all!!!

Been loafing around since I got up...but I need to be doing productive stuff, just haven't gotten enough coffee in me yet!

I'd like to try starting a bed of ostrich ferns here....but it would sure take a bunch of them to produce enough to eat every year! Much better to pick wild ones...I just haven't found any here in Arkansas. :(

I'll pop back in later.....right now I need more coffee!

05-12-2010, 01:30 PM

Yard is looking good........roof is looking good, no mo moss....

A few weeks back I was inspired by Howard to try and fix "my" sliding glass door. It was doing the thump thump thing, the track was getting bumps and causing the door to be difficult to open. It was BAD ! I thought I would have to get a new glass door installed. Then I thought it's just the stupid track, maybe they sell parts for em. I Googled for a track replacement and found one on line. Just slips over the old track. Was around 60 bucks but that's way cheaper than having a new sgd installed. Anyways, I put that puppy in today and it slides like a dream. Really smooth, like me, hehe.

Thanks Howard, you are the man....

Have most of the plants pulled from the front wall of the bedroom (exterior wall), just one more shrub and some weeds. Thinking about removing some soil from there and then either mulching or laying down a barrier of some sort.

Got the wall scraped and primed. Will paint it tomorrow.

New windows are to be installed on Wednesday of next week. More weeding to be done and have lambs tails to be planted, maybe yet tonight.

Cleared out a bit more space in the studio and trying to decide what art supplies I can live without. Only damaged one frame in all of this.

05-12-2010, 09:22 PM

Just in case it isn't apparent, I really adore the garden early in the morning. It is moist, quiet, cool and relaxing.
Flower number five for the red hot poker
Looks like the start of a fig to me.
A new variety of marigold that is supposed to look something like a football mum when open. First sign of color on this one.
Firecracker plant
Dancing lady orchid filling out nicely.
One very happy kangaroo paw.

05-13-2010, 09:01 AM
Morning All,

Wow Howard look at your garden grow!!! Beautiful.

Kathie so cute, I have a few around here that when they get into that position it looks like a conference for sleep aides...haha Willie can't roll over and do that poor guy haha but it's fun watching him try...LOL

I've been up since the crack of dawn and it is so very foggy out today and cold, I thought my windows were just dirty..hahahaha. I should be painting but I have this itch to re-decorate where I can, Larry hates it when I go here but ask me if I care..LOL I just bought two 8x10 Persian rugs for the living room..lol There's two Aubusson rugs there already but don't like them anymore..haha and if and when the other room gets it's wall up will use one of them there so no waste, and the other will spruce up my bedroom. Always a plan for when I spend tooo much money on a whim..haha I'm calling it a belated Mother's Day present..LOL

Okay so maybe not interesting stuff but I'm excited..haha other then that it's a Holy Day for me so have to go to Mass, by the time I get home I may get to paint some before I have to cook. So I won't bore you any more with my ramblin's and just say hi to, Shirl, Kat, Sue, Mary, Dee, Patti, Ruthie, Sharon, Robert, Raymo, Carol, Maureen, Kathrin, Linda, Bell, all the gang and hope for a great day for you all.

See ya all later,
Hugs all round,

Ran to market for a few things. $70.00 later.....

Purchased a netbook case for the iPad. Going to work well and protect it. Enough room for the device and accessories. All heavily padded. Room for a "clamshell" case which won't be out until fall.

Found a lady palm trying to grow up inside the wall. Fortunately the metal sill cap prevented it from penetrating but it was trying. About 1.5" in diameter and trying very hard. Painted the front wall today and it looks pretty sharp. The new primer seems to be working and the paint matched up about as perfect as one might hope for under any circumstances.

Ray glad you found the rail. It isn't the easiest item to find. My rail was an odd size and they had to cut out the old rail before they installed the new cap piece. Much much cheaper than buying a new slider. Here they have to be replaced with hurricane glass and the replacement was almost 4,000.00. It is an 8' opening and by todays standards, large.

Taking the gallery director to dinner tonight. He does so much for me that i really wanted to do that for him.

Filing the last of the paperwork for the moment, 15 minutes from now there will be more. It never seems to end.

Still working on the studio and will be photographing the still life work before it goes away. Will post some of them when I get to them.

That is a huge door, mine's just the standard 6' wide kind. I was able to find a track that just slipped over the old beat up and worn out track. It slides like brand new. One thing that made me mad was I was trying to lift the door out and broke the indoor handle completely off........Googled for a new handle and found one.....$7.90, not bad....oh wait, the shipping will be $13.50....that comes to $21.40, we require a minimum $25 purchase....you can keep shopping or pay a 5 dollar fee to bring the purchase past $25 dollars....so now my handle is $26.40 but I ordered it anyway because it fits perfectly and the other sites had handles in the 20 dollar range that didnt fit exactly. That's what I call real customer service. After I get my part, I will send off a very nasty email and tell them what I think of their thievery and why they represent what's wrong with our country right now. It's not that I think the door handle is too expensive it's just the way they went about gouging me.

Lol, I need to find that happy place within me that I havent been able to find lately. Ommmmmm Ommmmmm

Ray, consider yourself lucky down there that it was only 25 bucks. A woman in Toronto went into a dealership for some new tires and came out with a 66 thousand dollar car that should have cost her 41K. The fact that she was on disability and lived in subsidized housing didn't stop the dealership, they financed her themselves with a local leg-breaker. Expensive deal (http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/08/canadian-woman-pays-66k-for-41k-2010-mazda6-demo-model-dealer/)

05-13-2010, 04:56 PM
That's terrible ! I hope she gets some justice.

Here's another rant of mine.......

I have Comcast Cable (I call it Scumcast). I have lots of premium channels and recently decided to change my phone over to their service. Was quite a bit cheaper. A cpl months after I have my new phone service, it quits working. No phone service and I have no cell phones (I just dont wanna be tied to a phone). My cable for the tv is all pixelated. No premium channels, no OnDemand service. I get on the computer and go into a chat room with a representative of Comcast. I do all the things they request. Hook the phone directly to the modem etc etc. Doesnt do any good. " Ok, can you give us a call right now".........I DONT HAVE A PHONE THAT WORKS !!!...."oh yeah, never mind"....I have no cable tv, no phone service, I do have cable for the computer....can you please send someone out to fix the cable. Ok, we have one on the way. A cpl weeks later and I get the bill for the month. I have a 30 dollar service charge for fixing the cable.....that doesnt work.....that doesnt allow me to receive their crappy service. Man, was I mad. I called them this morning and you know how when youre soooo mad that you cant really talk straight ? That was me. I was trying so hard not to start screaming. They took the charge off and said they do that because of the little old ladies that have someone come out when they really dont need to. Yeah, whatever.

Disillusioned Raymo

That is why am using the phone line only to have DSL, and get my TV from online... including what phone usage I bother with...

05-13-2010, 10:45 PM
Interesting evening. Had a great dinner at a local restaurant.

Several disturbing phone calls this afternoon from close friends. All of them about illnesses.

Fig tree has figs forming. Found one earlier today and by this evening I had found 8. Picked more cucumbers and tomatoes tonight. Had to water some things today, they were wilting and not looking very good. Supposed to cool down the beginning of next week. Will be very welcome that is for sure.

05-14-2010, 11:58 AM
G'mornin'!!!! Where is everyone???

I think its a good morning to get the paint gun out & spray varnish the new portrait.

But first...leftover pizza for breakfast! Yum! :smug:

Well, I haven't painted in quite awhile for various reasons, not the least of which involved heartache.

Some of you may remember my muse, Zoe - our Boston Terrier who was almost 8. A couple of weeks ago we had to make the painful decision to euthanize her due to a sudden, painful medical emergency due to a genetic eye disease. We were absolutely crushed and grief stricken. She was our little "girl" since we have no children. But as painful as it was, we know it was the merciful thing to do. Needless to say, I haven't been at all motivated to paint.

My dear husband knew that my heart needed a little baby to love, and so we're happy to share the news about our new little girl "Ruby"! We lost our Zoe on a Tuesday and got Ruby on a Tuesday, so her full name is "Ruby Tuesday". She's only 1.5 lbs at 8 weeks - but judging by her eating, she probably won't be that tiny for long!

Anyway, just wanted to share a couple of pictures of her :)

Took animals to the vets for their checkups and shots. Tinker may need to have her teeth cleaned in the fall. The vet feels that the cat is doing well but that she has issues which at this point may not be resolvable. Bad feeling inside for me. Something I can't fix. Not much that can be done about it either.

Reframing a few pieces. Person took them home and scratched the plexiglass and now it needs to be removed, new ones cut, cleaned and reassembled. Always something isn't it.

What a cute puppy Celeste. She doesn't look too happy about the beads

05-14-2010, 04:40 PM
Yeah - that was the breeder's photo - she won't be wearing those going forward!

05-14-2010, 06:03 PM
Oh my, Celeste,, what a cutie patootie!
So sorry to hear of your loss but so glad you have a new baby to put some lovin' on!
Howard,, that doesn't' sound so good..
worked a short day at the shop, then had to go and help at the motel as the week day gal is down sick and there were 7 rooms that needed cleaning. as soon as I got done at the shop, off I went to the motel, stopped at the store for a few things and have been home painting ever since,, I am REALLY happy with how this is turning out.. will post it later,,

05-14-2010, 07:58 PM
Not a great day.

This is the project I have been working on this week.
Removed the shrubs, plants, etc. from the house to the pavers. Sealed, primed and painted the wall. Cleaned things up and started working on the lady palm that turns that corner. Want to create an area about the size of the cleaned area all around that corner. Eventually I might take the palms out and replace it with a crepe myrtle and grasses. Something a bit more controlled.

Still no rain but the promise of some in the future.

05-14-2010, 07:58 PM
Hey Gang,

Oh Celeste adorable pup!!! Ahhhhhhh.

Howard sorry about the prognosis on the cat.

Carol I think you might just have "snapped" him out of it, you crack a mean whip there girl....haha

Hi Mary, always a good day when you're happy bout what your painting, happy to hear it.

Raymo that was an adventure, idiots.

Day was quiet and actually didn't accomplish much but it was a good day.
Think I painted like four strokes..haha I joined the Lower Hudson Valley Plein Air group today, through the kindness of JamieWG's invitation. Apparently we live fairly close, she travels both sides of the river. It sounds like something I would really like to give a try doing. All my years of painting and I rarely worked outside a studio so this might just give me the spark I'm looking for. Now to shop for a light easel and a little canvas seat...LOL

Shirl I was so looking forward to participating in your monthly challenge but I am really even struggling with finishing the F&B one, I am sorry. Just not painting much at all.

Dee pizza for breakfast..I use to do that too, not in a long, long time tho, perhaps because hubby doesn't leave any for the next day..LOL

Well just stopping in to say hi and see what you're all up to.
Have a good rest of your night, see ya tomorrow.

Hugs all round,

I'm Grumpy Raymo now and i'm really good at it........

The only thing that has made me smile lately is that punk Merwyn. Around 5 (that boy wakes early) he attacked my foot again. My fault, I obviously moved it and it needed to be attacked with a resounding pounce. He starts biting the heck out of my big toe and thumping the bottom of my foot with his hind legs going a mile a minute. All I can do is laugh even though it's early. I need to ship him off to The Dragon Lady so she can run experiments on him.

05-14-2010, 10:42 PM
Oh Celeste, she is lovely! I just had to go and track down my copy of the song Goodbye Ruby Tuesday and have a listen. Now whenever I hear it (and yes, I will as we have fossil rock here on the radio, I'll think of your Ruby Tuesday.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, we are still grieving our boy and girl we lost in the summer. I swear our new dog is channelling them in some of the things she does.

Howard, good job on the house. We've been using Moos chew sticks for our guys for years and they really cut down on the need for cleanings at the vet... I brush Branwen's teeth 3x a week. I also use the tooth powder from Wysong and it's got her teeth all sparkly - just add to meals. http://www.freerangedogchews.com/catalog/section.asp?sec=1 The Moos don't stink like the Bully's nor do they make a mess on the carpets and floors.

We had the movers in to do an inspection our good we have to move... got the pack date and load date all sorted. Yay!

05-14-2010, 11:01 PM
Oh Ray, you know you are not going to ship Merwyn off anywhere.:D Your story reminds me of when we had dial-up. We had trouble getting on the internet, so called up the ISP to find out what was going on... they wanted us to try again while they waited. I reminded them I coudn't do that since I was on the phone with them... the same phone that we used for dial-up. Now we only have cell-phones which are great when they work but didn't work this week in Mississippi and they are supposed to work everywhere.:(

We are in Redbay, Alabama as of this afternoon. Found out that Mississippi has love bugs just like Florida. They are now plastered all over the front of the motorhome. I thought Florida was the only lucky state.

Oh well, I better keep reading while the WiFi is working, it's having problems... works awhile and quits.

Hello Everyone!

Sure need to do some catching up!! Howard, beautiful gardens! Love the tummy pics of all the special pets! Celeste, so sorry about your loss and wishing you much fun and love from your new little addition.

Things are busy here! We have 9 days left of school!

This week, other school bands (There are two High Schools in our area) have been practicing for Band Night (which was this evening) and sometimes they march by our school and window. So the other day, they came by and I let the kids go outside to watch them. Then brought the kids in, and we pulled out our rhythm band instruments and marched around the room. Then the kids asked, "Can we march on the street?" So I came up with a plan and yesterday the kids made uniforms and today we had our own parade outside in the bus lane. Several other classes came to sit on the curb to watch and my kids were sooooo proud and had a blast! We had to march down the block and then turned around and marched back!

Even funnier, tonight as our little school group was walking in the real parade, I noticed one of my students on the side still wearing his uniform!!

Other excitement at school today was the discovery of a family of owls perched in a tree outside one of the classrooms. There are four young ones and the mom and dad were on other branches higher up as look outs. VERY VERY CUTE!!!! The young ones are not ready to fly yet, so we all hope the kids will leave them alone and they will be safe. We are not sure how they got there, but maybe from another tree on the other side of school via the roof.

My house needs much attention so will rest up tonight and get started tomorrow! I hope my ambition is still there tomorrow!!!

Ray, I can just picture Little Merwyn!
Yeah Ray...give us a picture of this cat. Go on... DO IT!!!!

I want to see my hero.

Yeah Ray...give us a picture of this cat. Go on... DO IT!!!!

I want to see my hero.

I might just do that, then you all can see how evil this kid really is. My way of thinking....he has a lot of Carol/Noodles in him. Kim might still be channeling bad thoughts to him also. Yesterday I was standing in the yard and here comes Merwyn to rub on my legs....all of a sudden he flops onto his side....wraps his front legs around my leg and starts biting my ankle....he doesnt understand that his claws hurt and I had to get those claws out of my skin pronto....whereupon he took the opportunity to start biting my hands........the little punk has issues.

05-15-2010, 03:56 PM
Awwww Merwin was giving you some love bites,,
ouch, is right!
Hiya Ray! and everyone else!
been working outside today, FINALLY! Transplanted some grasses and hosta's hope they do okay, our ground is mostly all clay,, so I added some potting mix to it,, had the Princess out with me, on her lead, and the little stinker, started to bark up a storm at some poor woman who had the audacity to go jogging past us,, I got her calmed down, then a few minutes later 2 girls went walking up the road,, the little stinker did it again, so as I was dragging her back closer to me, she slipped her collar!!! Holy crap! good thing she wasn't too far away from me, I scooped her right up and in the house she went! she didn't even realize her collar had some off.. well I DID!
Then she barked at me while I finished up outside,, oh, for about an hour,, little punk!
Got three coats of sealer, on my sunflower painting, in a bit, it should be dry enough to get it in it's frame, and bring it up and figure out where to hang it..
Well, I better continue working, or I will run out of steam,, have a great weekend everyone!

05-15-2010, 06:27 PM
Crappie Diem. Feeling just off center today. Not bad but not good.

Made chocolate chip cookies today, comfort food.

Cleared a bit more space in the studio. More stuff in the trash. Warm again today but the promise of scattered thunderstorms tomorrow is somehow appealing. Need the water for my rain barrel.

Getting ready to photograph some very early works. Acrylics on paper, some airbrush work, pen work and quite different from the work of today. Have to break out the photo lights and just feel a bit lazy at the moment.

Got off my lazy butkus and got the lights out.

05-15-2010, 07:08 PM
I just stumbled across this vid & had to share!!!!!!!!! This little girl can belt out a song! Made the hair on the back of my neck stnd up...she is that good!

Rainy & mega-humid here this afternoon....wanted to get another coat of varnish on the portrait but it will have to wait. *sigh*

05-15-2010, 08:41 PM
OMG! I finally got on the internet... can you tell I'm slightly irritated?

Cute kids Ruthie, and I see a couple ornery little faces in there. You do the nicest things with your kids. Sweet little owls too. I know ya'll will have fun watching them.

Celeste, sorry about your loss but you sure have cute new puppy to love on.

The best thing about today is... I talked Jon into driving to Tupelo so I could go to Hobby Lobby and buy something to paint on. Printed out two coupons and made him buy one so I could use both coupons, lol. So, I'm cheap, I admit it. We even ate lunch out, if you call Taco Bell out, teehee. So tomorrow I might finally get something on my easel, even if it is blank and I have to choose something to paint.

Hey Susan, if you are lurking I have a question. What are the shrubs/bushes that have the sweet smelling white flowers that are all along the highway? We used to have them at our house in Alabama and I know the name, but it is locked away someplace "safe" in the nether regions of my brain. We can smell the honeysuckle, but these are almost overpowering and different than honeysuckle.

Ok, I'm going to search through my pictures for something to paint on my new, and never tried before, Ampersand Pastelbord. Been wanting to try them and now I'm going to. May not like them, but you never know until you try.

05-15-2010, 09:37 PM
Hi everyone,

Howard I like that one, very different from today but that amazing talent of your shines through and I bet it does not matter what you paint! Sorry bout the crappie diem.

Ruthie they look so cute, bet they had fun, you are a great lady and I know the kids must just adore you, lucky kids. The owl family, I don't think I've seen a "group" of them in one place either, so cute.

Dee now that's a natural talent, she was amazing, thanks for sharing. Took me awhile to remember my password for facebook, needed to sign it to see the link..I go there so often...LOL Not..haha

Hey Kathie, hope you have a great weekend too, so far mine is nice and quiet just the way I like it..haha

Raymo my man, how's the meat eater today...:D Oh I do love that cat..:D

Hi Shirl, ah thanks for understanding, you're a sweetie.

Hey Sue how are ya doing girl? Been keeping you up front in my thoughts.

Patti, so you finally did it, took the dive.... Have fun can't wait to hear how you think they are to work on, course we all know I'm a fan...hahaha

Hi Carol did you get to ride Maddie today, and Robert, Sharon, Kat, Bell, Linda, Maureen, Kathrin, Mary, hope you all had a great Saturday.

Ice cream time and I bought sugar cones too, I've been so wanting a double decker....LOL Help yourselves..Strawberry/banana, Vanilla, Cherry vanilla and of course Chocolate (sprinkles in the cabinet for those who care to indulge haha)

See you tomorrow, time to start all over again.

Hugs all round,

Shirl Parker

Hi Patti, that sounds a lot like Jasmine. I have some near my gate, and it is such a luxurious scent.

05-16-2010, 12:33 AM
Evening folks:
Patti, glad you finally got internet.

Ruth, the kids looks amazing and that brought back a memory from when I was a kid. My brothers and I put on a music show for my parents and we had similar outfits - made out of the finest construction paper and chalk.
The owls are fantastic, love the look on the last pic.

We drove up to Ottawa earlier this week and I commented to hubby at how many raptors we saw going up, ospreys, falcons, hawks and 3 golden eagles with several cranes, swans and geese added in. On the way down I just happened to glance over at the side of the road and saw what looked like an osprey condo... there were 9 nests spread over about 8 trees. I had never seen so many nesting so close before. We stopped to watch them for a while and of course, I didn't have my camera with me. I can't wait until we drive across Canada to Alberta and what we'll see on the way.

Elaine, yum on the ice cream.

Howard, my phrase for that is Seas the Day! I wanted to call our boat that but hubby vetoed it...anyone want to buy a boat? Not much call for them on the prairies...lol (it's a 24' sail boat.. needs a far size lake to get a good tack going)

I've been dabbling with soft pastels since my studio got packed up... came up with this one as a study: http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/15-May-2010/109508-belloil11.JPG
Both are 9x12 on 140 lb watercolour paper.

And this one: http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/15-May-2010/109508-moioil21.JPG

I had forgotten how much I liked pastels. Bit rusty on them ... been ages since I did anything with them.

05-16-2010, 01:39 AM
Hi All, spent most of the day painting, did some errands with Joe and grocery shopping, I think I might be done with the DIL's portrait for her mom for Mothers day. she asked me to do it like a few days before it should have arrived there.. oh well its late, I just hope she likes it.. she's getting it for nothing.. /sigh.
Now Hopefully can try that DS now!
Dee, thanks thats a great video, she's amazing!!
Bell, great drawings!!
Have a good nite all, cya tomorrow!
