Guess I should do something this week. Warm here and it is only 7 AM. 82° in the studio already. Going to be stiffling hot today with 70% humidity. Expect dehumidifier to kick in any moment now.

Harvested, blanched, and now cooling five large heads of broccoli. Will be frozen shortly.

Hope you all have a great week.

05-02-2010, 09:51 AM
What! No pictures?

05-02-2010, 10:54 AM
I see your pictures Howard... and it appears everything is growing by leaps and bounds.

Whew, we skipped spring no matter what the calendar says. It was 83 degrees at 11 PM last night. Everytime I go outside for a few minutes my hair looks like I just took a shower... soaking wet. Good thing I had it trimmed a couple weeks ago. Guess I will be taking a shower before we go to lunch with some friends.

I have the birthday gifts all wrapped and ready to deliver this afternoon, all the lauundry is finished, everything is put away, the camera batteries are charged and I remembered my cell phone charger at the last minute. We are ready to rock and roll in the morning. Heading for the Natchez Trace and I hope some of the wildflowers will be blooming. Off to another adventure, but I will be checking in often... we also have the WiFi working.:D

Taking it easy out in the heat Howard and the rest of the Florida gang.

Its a scarey thing, So right now Stopped drinkin crystal light and have to check all sugarfree items. Realy tough when watching my sugar..SIGH!!

Hi guys, I had such a terrific time with Elaine yesterday. I am so thrilled that I got to meet her. It was all too short but a short visit is better than no visit at all. Photos to come indeed.

It is such a glorious day here again. I am currently on the balcony listening to the birds and the fountain. It is a nice place to be writing my manuscript, with the exception of the carpenter bees that are dive bombing periodically.

05-02-2010, 12:17 PM
I'm looking foward to seeing those photos of Carol and Elaine et all! Just like Florida, South Texas is getting warmer and more humid. Our airconditioner is out, repairman is to come Monday with part. It's 75 degrees at 10 a.m. and it is expected to climb to 88 degrees today and yes, HUMID! I'm amazed, Howard, that you get so much gardening done in the heat and humidity. I'm only good for about 1.5 to two hours at the outside if I can get out early in the morning. PattiLou ... if you see some wildflowers I hope you can post some photos! Where's Raymo???? Oh, Kathy, I don't know that I could give up my diet Dr. Peppers but I guess we can when we must! I'm going to go harvest some carrots and collard greens before it gets any warmer or more humid ... and then I'm going to PAINT.

05-02-2010, 12:38 PM

Good Morning!

Elaine and Carol, so happy that you had a wonderful visit!
Howard, as always, beautiful garden. We've been cold and rainy here. Leaves are just starting and it's finally getting green here.
Patti, when do you start your travels? Sounds fun!
Kathy, happy painting! You too Linda!

I've been in a painting slump and haven't worked for awhile. I think I will get there today. It's yucky outside and cleaning just doesn't sound very interesting.

It was Prom night here. Robbie and his date looked spectacular!!

05-02-2010, 01:09 PM
Elaine, what fabulous Photos!! Looks like you did indeed have fun. Ohh Maddie is so handsome!!

Ruthie, Rob and date do make a beautiful couple. oh my this brings back memories!!

Kathy snopes says it is false (http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/aspartame.asp).

Kathy, I am a firm believer in that if it is not naturally found in nature, do not put it in your mouth*. Honestly, these new products marketed as all natural e.g. high fructose corn syrup, stevia, etc are not natural. This goes for margarine. Margarine has been around long enough for the studies to show that it contributes to positively to heart disease more than butter does. Also high fructose corn syrup was suppose to be good for diabetics but now it has been shown that it is metabolized faster than sugar, something a diabetic should not have happen, they need a slow burn of carbohydrates.

Thus is you are limiting the calories from sugar, etc, then cut these out by reducing their intake. Don't substitute with something else because you want the sweetness. You will get used to not eating excessive sweet things. We do not eat dessert all that often. I do not miss it, I do not even think about it.

* caveat to that, is that I do not put "everything" that is naturally found in nature in my mouth

Ha, I wondered why my ears were burning yesterday........I think Noodles blurred this pic a little but....oh my, they are a couple of hotties. http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Love/wink-kiss-034.gif

Did she let you drive her car ? She said she would let me.

05-02-2010, 02:26 PM
Where's Raymo????

Here I is........i've been spending most of my time up on the roof doing moss patrol. Oregon and moss are synonymous, algae too, and I cant tolerate the look of moss on my shingles. After I got a handle on that I had to power wash my old pick-up. Man, that poor gal was filthy and she's looking much better now. A good lookin woman and a good lookin pick-up, it dont get much better.

:music:I like to go swimmin with bow-legged women:music:

Kathie, I heard about aspertame many years ago. I also read that since it first came out, they changed formulas that make it more stable.

05-02-2010, 10:26 PM
Thanks Carol and Sue for your help. I surely hope its not as bad now as it once was, so hard to stop it all. THanks

Morning folks:

Flight out west was delayed in Toronto for 3 hours so we arrived much later in the day than anticipated so some of the listings we wanted to see had to be put over to today. The drive down from Edmonton was nice...even though it was an additional 2 hours longer than my bottom could stand... after sitting around Toronto/flight it had enough. My gran used to say.. "Your brain can only absorb as much as your bottom can sit on."

Anyway, time zone aside I was up at 0400 taking Princess Branwen for a walk. The reason? You know how you hear of airlines overbooking seats and bumping folks? Well, they also do it for cargo. Branwen didn't get on a flight until much later and they "fedexed" my dog to us. She arrived at 3:30am. I'm not impressed with the whole thing at all.

Off to see houses at 9 am, ciao folks.

05-03-2010, 09:49 AM
Kathie , have you looked at Agave Nectar. I have been using it about a year. It is organic and sweet with a low glycemic count. Comes in clear and amber and I am finding I rather like the amber. Available at many stores including Publix and many others as well. Generally in the organic department. I get it at a local whole foods store.

Still working on the studio. Need to get some heavy duty bags for some items. Need to make a trip to the hardware store anyway.

05-03-2010, 09:52 AM
Happy House Hunting Bell!

05-03-2010, 10:00 AM
Morning Gang,

Raymo you mean Carol and Maddie...I agree....LOL
Hottie would apply to the day we were all hotties, I should have stayed long enough to get hosed down like Maddie...LOL

Raining and humid here today, yesterday was a killer too with the humidity.
This valley isn't too pleasant on days like this, can't breathe.

Bell wow poor dog, was okay tho right? Good luck with the house hunting.

Morning Carol, Kat, Kathie, Sue, Sharon, Howard, Dee, Patti you're off today, have a great time, Mary, Ruthie they looked so handsome what a fun time, oh to be young again and look that good all dressed up...LOL, hi Robert where ya been, Linda, Kathrin, Maureen..all the gang.

Suppose to be going to the doctors but they said he was ill, so not really sure if he's coming in or not, hope they don't forget to call if he isn't it's a bit of a trek to his office. Oh well should go get dressed and ready anyway I suppose.

Hope everyone has a good day back into the new week. I will see ya all later.

Hugs all round,

05-03-2010, 10:45 AM
Hi all!!
Fabulous photo Carol! Love it!!
Bell, ohh my! I realy would have been making a scene if my dog wasnt on the flight.. thats horrible, Poor thing!
Howard, thanks, will look for that!
Elaine, Hope you have a good day, and report from Doc, if he's well!
Patti, be careful out there!! I know you northernbound now!
hi and hugs to everyone else.

Off to run to the bank and pick up dry cleaning for Joe. and stop and show boss' wife the painting so far.
Then to work on it some more.

Later all!!

05-03-2010, 12:20 PM
Building my first rain barrel. Think it might just work. It is a soap barrel from a car wash that has been cleaned and rinsed. I have also cleaned and rinsed it again. I found the "plugs" have screw in 3/4" caps that I was able to fit with a piece of pipe 4" long with an added elbow. Then a valve, then another elbow. Set it up on cement block and next is to cut a hole in the bottom and screen it so debris and bugs don't get in there. Level it and figure out how to stabilize it.

Garden gets better and better every day.

Heat is getting to me, so if it doesn't get done first thing in the morning, it isn't going to happen until dusk.

Been to market and hardware store already and put barrel together and mounted. That is enough for this morning.

05-03-2010, 02:06 PM
Two houses down and off the list...off to 2 more..
Branwen was fine other than a bit of dehydration, very hungry and badly needing a poop.

05-03-2010, 04:41 PM
Patti, when do you start your travels? Sounds fun!
Teehee... we left this morning (Monday) Stopped in the panhandle of Florida, it takes forever to get out of Florida. Might have to change our plans since Nashville, Tennessee is flooded and Route 40 is closed. Yikes, always something goin' on.

Oh Bell, poor doggy, glad she is ok though. What a bummer. Hope you find a nice house to call home.

Kathie, It seems like everytime they come out with something new someone jumps on the bandwagon proclaiming it is bad for you. Then they change their mind, then they change it again. I find it hard to believe any of them including the FDA who also change their mind all the time. It's so confusing and it's the pits.

This campground is sorta the pits also, but they do have WiFi, so I'm happy and we will only be here overnite.

05-03-2010, 06:35 PM
Hi guys!
Patti, be happy you got WiFi,, I am so sick of Dial Up I could spit! I was about to reply and got kicked offline,, no wind, no rain,, nuttin' argh! some day,, oh,, some day,,,
So happy to see pics of Elaine and Carols day together,, I have had to refresh the page about 4 times so far and have not been able to see all of them yet,, will keep trying,, till I get mad and get off line altogether,,

Elaine, 100 % chance of rain here yesterday,, all we got was about 5 little sprinkles,, all day, never started to rain till Mark got home from work at 10PM..
I worked in the flower bed awhile yesterday afternoon, begging for that darn rain, that never came,, so warm,, no, hot,, and humid,, got some weeding done, but so much more to do..
well kids, I have to get moving here or I may get kicked off again,, ah, the beauty of living in the woods..

There has been a revamp of the titles. Yeah, I did have a hand in it..... :D:lol:

It is a trial for enthuiast. Funny you noticed so quickly.

I wanted my title changed to Janitor because as I pointed out I clean up other people's crap - they would not do it

05-03-2010, 11:17 PM
Kathie, the rain barrel is for watering but mostly for mixing sprinkler cans with fertilizer and water and watering the plants from that. Hoping that it will cut back on the expensive city water use to some degree. Hoping to get it finished off tomorrow. With the heat I am currently only working in the early morning and late afternoon outside. The heat is really getting to me this year. Just takes my breath away it seems.

Went for a walk through the garden tonight and things are doing well. Still not sure about the corn. I see the side growth but no corn ears just yet. The flowers are starting to bloom but no silk. Guess it will be what it will be. Picked two more heads of broccoli. That makes 8 of the 9 picked. One more to go and then the plants will come out. Need room for the giant cucumber plants. Morning glories are starting up the fence. As the summer heat sets in some of the annuals are drying up. I do get about 3 months of great flowers.

Need to remove some ilex in the next few days. They grew to close to the house and now I worry about the insects. Also want to trim back the bush just outside of the studio door. Trying to create an unplanted area all around the house. Only needs to be 15" or so wide but I want nothing touching the house if possible. Not sure how that is going to work but I am going to give it a try.

Hope everyone had a good day.

05-04-2010, 08:09 AM
Morning Everyone,

  Carol now that seriously would have been funny and true at the same time, you do do the cleanup of the crap....roflol. I see I'm not banded however hahaha yet...:D
Hope the rest of your weekend was terrific. Tell everyone hello for me.

Everyone needs inspiration, the best thing that could have happened was Larry coming with me to Carol's, he's back on track..my track, we filled a shopping cart at Lowe's..

Seems will be a fairly nice day here, so far not so hot or humid. I have to rearrange my walls...my big gorgeous drawing needs a place of great prominence for all to see when they come in..haha which means I have to get the play-dough out to plug up the nail holes..  Kidding but it use to be my quick fix so Larry wouldn't yell at me for "all" the holes, can't do that no more it eventually dries up and falls out...:D then I'm snagged..haha

A very good morning to Howard, I find the heat bothers me more then it use to as well too so don't feel it's just you. Mostly the humidity now gets to me.
Hope you have a good day today.

Hi Mary, Sue, Kat, Bell, Maureen, Robert, Patti, Sharon, Dee, Ruthie, Shirl,
Kathie, Linda, Kathrin and Raymo my man enthusiast..  now that's definitely something to ponder..hahha and the activity would be bustin' chops hmm I think it's perfect....:D

Forgot to say there's coffee here and juice, made scrambled eggs this morning, help yourselves. I will see you all later gonna go play with my house..haha

Have a blessed day.
Hugs all round,

05-04-2010, 08:41 AM
Good morning peeps! heat is getting to me too,, well as Elaine said, the humidity,, geesh,,
really have to get back out to the front flower bed to get the rest of the weeds pulled,, but hate that crawly feeling I get when the sweat is pouring down my head,, ewwwww,,,,
I am thinking I must have hit a wall or something, I am in no mood,, or energy level to give a hoot about much ,, just want to sit onmy arse and do a whole lot of nuttin',, hope it passes soon, got lots to do,,
a friend, gave me a huge garbage bag full of strawberry plants last thursday, so I DID get them planted on Sunday. not sure I got them in the right place, will have to see how they do, I put them in containers, so I can move them if I HAVE to.. or have Mark do it,, LOL
well better get a move on and get to work,, off and running again,, sigh,,

05-04-2010, 09:17 AM
Morning all.

Elaine look into a wall hanging system. I had some of the same issues with holes and patching. My walls a skim coated with a sanded plaster. When you patch them, they never look the same again, ever again. So, I got a wall system and haven't put a hole in a wall in years. Also have the versatility to move things on a whim. Very easy to install and not terribly expensive either.

Walker Display (http://www.dickblick.com/products/walker-system-moulding/)

I see they are now offering this in colors as well. My system has been in place for about 4 years now and I am considering getting more for other walls.

05-04-2010, 10:20 AM
Howard thank you, what a great idea! My walls are plaster and they are tough to deal with as you know so this would be perfect. I'm going to do the "contact" thing to find out all that I will need to purchase. My hubby will thank you too!! LOL And yes the whim thing that's my MO for sure..haha

Hi Mary, well just take it easy girl, go slow, we are not use to heat..LOL
I was given some strawberry plants and we put them in those hanging Topsy Turvey things I think they call them. Worked great, not in the dirt, critters didn't help themselves, especially our resident skunk guy..haha and they're fairly cheap and I didn't have to bend over to pick em..hahha I'm going to try the tomato ones this year that way as well. Have a good day cutie.

Seems I'm sitting at this thing more then I wanted to, so just going to shut down and get down to buisness, after I find out what I need to order for that wall system, thanks again Howard!

Just discovered one of the students cheated in an exam :mad::mad:

05-04-2010, 01:21 PM
Got the water barrel leveld this morning and placed in the area where the runoff from the roof has washed away the water and left the gravel. Figure that was a good indicator of how the water falls. Now to get the hole cut and screened. Thinking a fine screen, plastic, white and durable. May have to break out the sawzall to cut the hole. Gotta love that tool. Making progress, slow and steady.

Got a new toy today, it is the hexbug inchworm. Haven't opened it yet but may be able to get to play this afternoon. That is the last of them for a while.

So, Carol, is there a protocol to follow this up? I am sure it is a great disappointment.

05-04-2010, 01:51 PM
Well I just can't stay away from the computer.LOL

That's a shame Carol I'd be very angry too and like Howard suggested quite disappointed. Was this one a usually good student? What a shame, and how stupid really.

Just went for a little walk with Willie, it's actually pretty nice out, little breeze, not terribly hot less ya stand in the sun..haha I just found a little rose bush that for two years was "dead", never took out the stump tho why not can't explain, well the little bugger is growing among the poppy's that came later.
Never figured that could happen but gave it some breathing room and there's little shoots all over the place at the base as well. That'll give me three of the six I've had anyway.
And there's a tiny bud on one of the others, seems early but I'm happy..LOL

Lunch time and I was going to start drawing the F&B challenge for this month but I'm thinking maybe will just go swing outside..haha with lunch and be a bum..everything will wait it always does..haha

Maybe just watch the world go by today instead. Oh Howard never limit the number of toys...LOL keeps ya young..haha have fun with it, can't wait to see exactly what it is.

Lady Carol
05-04-2010, 02:09 PM
So, Carol, is there a protocol to follow this up? I am sure it is a great disappointment.
There is a well-established protocol. She fails the course and has to do it again. The students sign an agreement their first day in the PhD program not to plagiarize. She lifted text verbatim from two publications and tried to pass it off as her own. She not only did it to my question, she did it in the course director's question  by lifting text from wikepedia and a cytokine website. The thing is that she does not speak very good English, so when she starts using words in her written vocabulary that she would not use in her spoken vocabulary, you know something is wrong.

05-04-2010, 02:15 PM
Elaine, if the growth is below the graft bud it may be from the root stock and may not grow true to the rose that was planted. Sometimes the graft will die but the root will still sprout. Usually root stock is not a pretty rose but a disease and fungus resistant variety with a grafted "more delicate" rose on the top. Just watch it and see what happens.

Very hot outside today so I work for a few minutes and then inside for a few. Rest, replenish water and then out for a few more minutes.

a tiny bit later....

Hexbug: inchworm

Inchworm moves slower than the ant but it is remote controlled, harharhar, guy stuff. Very clever little things.

05-04-2010, 05:27 PM

This started as a joke between my baby sis and I and she had it made into a T-shirt. Have to admit it is one of my favorites. I apparently said it to her at some point and it stuck. We both giggle at it now.

05-04-2010, 08:44 PM
love it Howard!
weeded the OTHER side of the flower bed today after work,, I MAY get it done some day,, should be able to get the middle done next time,, probably just in time to start all over! LOL

05-04-2010, 09:36 PM
:music: Tin soldiers and Nixon comin'....:music:

I cant get this song outta my head today.

I wonder if my Noodles ever got off the computer ?

Probly not and now she has lines from her computer chair permanently etched on her b***

Later............artdorks !

I surely do need a Grandaughter to spoil!! THINKING PINK!!!!!!

05-04-2010, 11:04 PM
Kathie, congratulations. Hope all goes well on all fronts.

Almost have the rain barrel complete. Been somewhat lazy today. Stayed inside most of the day due to the heat and humidity. Finding the heat a bit difficult. If I can't get it done before noon, it isn't going to happen, especially outside.

Did pick the first cucumber tonight.

05-04-2010, 11:28 PM
Howard,, noting like a freshly pick cuke, right out of the garden,, yum,,
Congrats Kathie!

05-05-2010, 01:18 AM
Love the Tshirt Howard, like the little inch worm, looks fun!, Be careful out in that sun.. Wear your hat and sunscreen. Its been sooo dang humid you can barely breathe!! If you dont have to go out in it.. dont. especially not 10-2pm, worst hrs in this heat.
Finaly off to bed, had a busy day, painted more tonight done with the eyes and mouth and now onto fiishing up the skintones.!
hugs and luv to all!

My Son in law Chris is also being deployed to Afghanistand in June, with his specialty dog Miley, Keep them all in your prayers PLEASE!! God willing he will be home in time for Christmas and the birth!

Prayers he returns safe and sound.

05-05-2010, 02:03 AM
Thank You So Much Sue!

05-05-2010, 08:19 AM
Trying to make this a quickie so I can get to bed for a few....gonna sleep the whole time the lady is here....I hope!

Patti? how close to the Tupelo section of the trace will you be? I live about 85-90 miles from there....tho' still have no transpo. Watch out for the gazillion deer, skunks and other animals at night....they are legion!!

Kathie...that is one reason we switched to more splenda stuff...but cannot wait to see what the price on the new stuff (stevia) which is from an actual plant, not chemicals will be...hopefully it will mean one can finally have one's cake and eat it too!!!!

Ok, Carol....why is stevia not natural if it comes from a plant? Asparteme and and Splenda are all chemicals and my dr yells at us for using them....but the nutritionists tell us to use all sugarless substitutes....it really does get confusing.

Great pic of the two of you and Maddie!!

Elaine....sorry I did not call...but sounds like you were busy anyway. I have been sick for a few days....something intestinal....ick!!

Will try to answer more tomorrow!!

05-05-2010, 08:19 AM
Good morning everyone...

Howard those toys look like fun..haha I was thinking a whole different thing for "inch worm". Thank goodness the child in us never completely leaves!
I use to cook for the priests at our rectory, only three of them, and one would always bust my chops cause I was in the renewal..charismatic thingy.
He was a good friend too tho, anyway one evening I prepared dinner, and folded the napkins so they'd stand up...well when he took his these pair of wind up sneakers came strolling out carrying a little flag on a toothpick with the words "Alleluia" on it, they cracked up...so fun is fun and as long as it makes you smile worth all the gold in the vault...LOL Love the T-shirt..

Kathie, exciting news!! I will be praying for both. Yes a little girl would be nice, but either are for spoiling silly, which is a grandma's duty...:wink2:

Cool here this morning, little thunderstorm yesterday quick fly by tho, but the winds were wicked. And no Raymo my man no lines on my butt, you think of the dang-dest things weirdo..:D

Hi Mary weeding, I still have a ways to go too, I may never win but it's fun trying. I was thinking if I just put in tons more flowers maybe you wouldn't notice...:D

Hi F.Sue, Maureen, Carol, Robert, Patti, Ruthie, Shirl, Linda, Kat, Sue, Bell, Dee, Sharon, Kathrin, who'd I miss..:o

Few chores today then nothing much else going on.

Morning folks:

After a busy day yesterday with the home inspection (3 hours) we ready to start taking the conditions off the house! YAY! Inspector said it was one of the best homes he'd seen in a long time. We're going to have to complete the basement ceilings and change a few walls around and add a powder room but it's not a *must do* right away project and can be something to do over the winter. We just have to wait on the final electrical inspection(something we insisted upon as the house we live in now had major electrical code violations that we ended up in litigation over with the previous owners - so we are a little gun shy now) and then we finalize the deal and think about getting home.

Branwen has a lovely big backyard to do collie stuff in. Now, the place is devoid of landscaping so we'll be thinking about what trees, shrubs and bushes to be putting in and I'd like to try and stay with indigenous plants as they will take and survive the winters better.

We also have a cold room to develop and I'm thinking wine and veggie cellar.

The highway to Edmonton was closed last night due to a snowstorm ... EEK! and hubby was very grateful that I'd insisted on him bringing his winter jacket. I just hope we can get out of here on Sat.

Off to the lawyer's today and then off to finalize the mortgage details.

Took tons of landscape pics for future use.

Howard, love the t-shirt. If I may, I might borrow that phrase for work.

05-05-2010, 12:21 PM

First signs of a tassle of silk. Oh boy, guess it is a bit early to start boiling water.

Dances, sounds like the trip was worth the time and effort. Of course you can borrow the "phrase". Doubt that I have any real hold on it.

Lots going on today. I can actually find my chair, sit in it and see the back door of the studio. What the heck is wrong with this picture. It will fill up this weekend when the show comes back to the studio. Sales have been slow but there have been sales, can't complain, well, I could, but, it wouldn't do much good would it.

05-05-2010, 05:22 PM
Hi and hugs to everyone!!

Later all!!

05-05-2010, 10:12 PM
Ok, this is wierd. I posted something, I saw it there and now it is gone. Whaaaaa?????

Currently in Vicksburg, Mississippi and will stay here a week while we explore Vicksburg, Natchez and the Natchez Trace. Lots of history in the area. Taking tomorrow off though after driving for 3 days... might even get some painting done... think about it anyway.

No internet last night, another one of those campgrounds that advertise WiFi and in reality it does not work, sigh.

Susan we will be very close to Tupelo as we are stopping in Red Bay, Alabama (birthplace of our motorhome) to have a couple things checked out.

Mary and Elaine, I always thought planting more flowers was a good idea to hide the weeds, go for it!:D

Haha, I'm in the same category as Ray... is that good or bad??? Ray:heart:

05-05-2010, 11:39 PM
Hi y'all!

I've spent the day 'decompressing' from the last few weeks at work. It was so very good to have a day off knowing that there are two more days off to follow (hopefully  ). But the paycheck I got today was AWESOME! :D

I'm hoping I'll finish the portrait I've been working on this week....we'll see. Didn't even sit at my easel today, I just didn't feel like doing anything. So I did NOTHING!

05-06-2010, 07:36 AM

Found it!

My favorite chair, knew it was in the studio but I unearthed it yesterday. Sat in it last night and watched a movie on the iPad. Felt good.

Off for some testing this morning and then lunch with a client and his wife. Then the studio this afternoon for more mayhem and destruction.

05-06-2010, 08:34 AM
Hi all, quick hi and off to work
Dee, glad you enjoyed your day and hopefuly more, you deserve it!!
Patti, Have fun, sounds like your gonna be busy, enjoy!
Howard, YEah glad you found your chair! How do you like the ipad?? is it better then a laptop??very expensive? they look so neat!

05-06-2010, 09:29 AM
Morning folks:

Kathie, congrats on the grandbaby! I too hoped for a girl after my darling love bug arrived. I guess my parents were doing the same with me... I'm the only girl in a sea of brothers...when the granddaughter was born, I went out and did a massive shop for all things pink. My daughter, the tomboy, groaned when she saw all the pink LOL...

We're off to sign off on the house today and lift the conditions. Just a few more details to deal with while we are here, like arranging to have cable/phone/utilities hook-up and whatnot and then we're going to hope the snow stays away until we get home.

Dee, glad to hear you've got time off.

Susan, how are you feeling now? Any better?

05-06-2010, 01:57 PM
Haha, I'm in the same category as Ray... is that good or bad??? Ray:heart:

Awww, my PattiCakes is always thinkin about her Raymo....

05-06-2010, 02:29 PM
Ran some errands this morning, and figured I'd pop in & say "hi" before I dragged my easel out onto the porch. The weather is just glorious, perfect for painting outside! :smug:

I'll check back in later, & post a pic of the portrait.

See ya!

05-06-2010, 04:46 PM
Kathie, I really like the iPad, would it replace a laptop, no. I use it in conjunction with a laptop and where I need portability and such.

Took some woolite to the chair and hope it at least cleans it up a little. Smells good.

Ordered a new pen for acrylic ink and am still waiting for it to arrive. Ordered on the 28th of Apr. No major borders to cross.....other than the threshold of the sender. I am just being impatient but it seems like a long time to get it here.

The rain barrel glue has set and seems to be holding. Now to get some water in it. No rain in sight. Got the screening trimmed and it is looking good.

Harvested the last of the broccoli this morning and got it blanched and frozen. Have 12 bags of broccoli in the freezer.

05-06-2010, 09:22 PM

Maddie's eye mask turned up today  It provides 95% UV protection and somehow we believe that the UV is exacerbating the issues with his eye.

And good news we are nearly back to normal. The repairs and all the painting is done. Tomorrow they come to professionally clean the carpets. Then all that is left is the tiling of the bathroom. And we got a new fridge. Hated the one we bought a couple of months ago. Yeah Sears lets you return it within 3 months. This one is so much better in design :D

05-06-2010, 10:03 PM
Yay Carol! great to hear !

05-06-2010, 10:41 PM

Yesterday was one of those days,, shoulda stayed in bed,, and slept the day away,, was so darn cranky when I got home,, argh,,

Morning Everyone,

Quick fly by, back again to the doctors, this time they want my blood, pretty soon I'm be on empty....LOL

Morning Carol, hope the mask works perfectly for Maddie! Glad to hear things are getting back to normal with the house, new frig..I didn't know Sears did that or they would have gotten our new one back within a week of owning it, hate it..haha and they sure didn't tell us that.

Hi Mary, Dee, Kat,Sue hope you're feeling better, Howard, Raymo you are just toooo bizarre to be an option...LOL, Patti, Ruthie, Sharon, Robert, Linda, Maureen, Kathrin, Bell, Shirl, Linda, hope I got ya all.

Later then,
Hugs all round,

05-07-2010, 09:38 AM
Morning folks:

House is all signed off now and now we wait for closing day (July 12 in Trenton).

Had some sad news that a friend of ours was killed in Afghanistan earlier this week. Craig was a Naval clearance diver working there to deal with the IEDs and landmines. He was the first Canadian sailor to die and sadly on the day his beloved Navy turned 100 years old. There has to be a special place in heaven for those who run TOWARDS a bomb.

Carol, hope the mask works for Maddie. Glad to hear you're on the road to being put back together. I totally understand about the appliances - something my non-cooking husband just cannot grasp. I was very happy to sell the appliances we have now with the house. I hated the stove as well as the stainless steel. Hubby figures a stove is a stove and doesn't get why I prefer some brands over others. As a leftie... it's very important that I have safe and comfortable access to knobs, handles and shelving. One day, I'm going to tie his right hand behind his back and make him open everything with his left hand so he might see what it feels like. Might leave him like that too....lol

Dee, check your mid back over your shoulder blade... my neck pain always generates from there.

Elaine, enjoy the grands. I really miss mine.

Howard, glad you found your chair... nothing better than a good book/movie and a comfortable butt.

Has anyone figured out who won the UK elections yet? It seems we here in Canada have heard that story before... a finance minister stabs the PM in the back, takes over the party without an election and runs the place to the ground along with one scandal after another, then forces an election to only have end up losing to a Conservative minority... looks like Canada is setting a trend... lol...

05-07-2010, 10:24 AM
Years ago I tore a muscle in my back (the "backstrap" on my right), and I'm thinking its related to that. Occasionally I "forget" and stretch.....sets that muscle afire!....and the pain then radiates out from there. I did just that about a week ago, hurt horribly for a few hours....then it eased up. I'm gonna go buy a new pillow today, maybe that will help. There isn't anything I can do about the scar tissue in that muscle...except be more careful not to stretch my arms over my head. :(

Well, I need to get my day started. See y'all later!

05-07-2010, 10:45 AM
Raymo you are just toooo bizarre to be an option...LOL

What the heck did I do now ???

05-07-2010, 12:23 PM
Dee -- I used to apply heat when I had a stiff and/or sore neck and it never seemed to do much good. Then I had a stiff neck that lasted more than a week. I couldn't turn it to either side. A friend of mine said I should use an ice pack. I was skeptical but it worked! Within hours I could turn my neck and by the next day I was totally pain free. It's worth a try. At least it's a cheap remedy without chemical side effects.

05-07-2010, 01:29 PM
Hi all!!
Bell, thanks! I can't wait till we know what its gona be! Grats on the house, Sorry to hear about your friend, so sad. Prayers to his family and yours.
Ray, , that's a great photo! Silly Ray, but we love ya!
Dee, glad you got some painting in! Hope your neck feel better. I know the feeling, had similar this week, in the spare room where I moved my studio/art stuff in the corner.. there is a tv mounted up in the upper corner of the room my inlaws used.. and while listening to it painting, I often lookes up.. and using bifocals.. I had to bend head back more.. so yeah.. a lot of neck aches this past week!!
Howard, thanks, glad you enjoy the ipad! Nice to have your chair smelling great again!
Mary, sorry to hear about your late appt last eve. Love Nicky's portrait! Hope Princess is ok.((HUGS))
Carol. glad to hear the works all done! ohh a new frig, how exciting!

Went to the Foot dr this am!
Yup, I have that planter Facialis. got a cortisone shot in the foot and have exercises to massage and lengthen the tendon and cream to help pain as I cannot take any nsaids.
he took xrays and ultrasound and I do have alot of inflammation in the tendon from the heel which both have spurs on them. Also have new supports for my shoes. realy need to get a good pair of sneakers!
its sooo sore right now even when not walking.. I surely felt that shot!!

I have to go back out and run some errands.
Have a good day all!! be back later!!
Hugs and luv to all!

Hi Elaine, I forgot to subscribe to this thread, and here it is Friday already. You were the only one looking for me, giving a shout out, so I guess no one else missed me.

If some of you are wondering if this will ever end, it will, with this final outcome of the Photoshopping of my Asiatic Lilly, whose blossoms came out at different times, but I captured them all in photos, and put them back together.

05-07-2010, 04:06 PM
Kathie, there is an oil called "Fortex" that will Help with the foot aches. I would put it on a cotton ball and wipe the bottom of the feet. At least take a look at it anyway.

05-07-2010, 06:37 PM
Howdy y'all. Thought I'd pop in... sorry to keep disappearing, but between this baby portrait, stuff around the house, and just the fact that I seem to be constantly tired (doesn't seem to matter how much sleep I get, I'm always exhausted... thinking a trip to the doctor is in order) I don't get around to much else but Facebook online anymore. Don't even have the energy to play any of my games on Facebook, either... the days just disappear from me.

But :grouphug: for everyone...

05-07-2010, 07:19 PM
Kat, good to see you around again. Seems there are a lot of people coming and going and coming back again. Life does that to folks sometimes. Hope you are doing well. Understand the whole energy thing to the enth degree. Since my show went up, energy went out the window. Haven't even painted but sure have got a lot of cleaning done.

Come on back when you can.

Got the rain barrel done and in place. Looks pretty good I think. Now for the rains. Need them desperately. Corn is setting silk and eggplants are setting as well.

05-07-2010, 08:15 PM
Totally understand the tired thing,Kat....and I imagine you understand where I am....when meds are not working well....and there is way too much stress....I start digging a hole to crawl in....and keep digging, deeper and deeper...away from everything and everybody...not necessarily smart or healthy....but I think 'normal' for people with depressive disorders, etc. Feeling better physically....but definitely on a downward spiral emotionally, nothing much to do but ride it out.

Hugs to all!!

05-07-2010, 09:10 PM
Eh, I can understand! I haven't been depressed lately, but I have been feeling over-whelmed....work, family, life. *sigh*

{{{{{hugs}}}}} to everyone...whether you feel like you need right now or not....in a minute you might!

05-07-2010, 10:08 PM
Shirl, Hi, what a fabulous photo, I thought they were all bloomed in this.. not put together, how wonderful a job you did, I love these.. so pretty! sorry Dear, I usually just say Hi to all since I never have time and Afraid of missing someone, unless someone posted and I try to have a reply, so forgive me, good to see you, Hope all is well and hubby is doing great!
Howard, Thanks, will check it out, I would guess its with the bengay and analgesic creams right?? the rain barrel looks great, Hope you get some rain soon, I know we can surely use it!
Kat, Hey girl, good to see you, I know you must be very busy, glad you popped in.. so many times life does get in the way. stay well and happy painting!
Hi Susan, Hang in there, things can only get better, I hope, keepin you all in my prayers.((HUGS))
Dee, can understand, you have a lot on your plate too. ((HUGS BACK))

I taking it slow tonight, printing out photos of my paintings for my albums, had pizza tonight after spending 3 hrs from 3-6 at the tire plus store, getting two new front tires and Alignment done as it was pulling to the right and a shimmy in the steering wheel I could even see while driving. so that fixed and $300 more in dept.

foot feeling a bit better this afternoon, not exercising today, allowing the inflammation to go down some after the shot.. The new special soles that cost$44 from dr in my old sneakers really have already helped in the walking around this afternoon and eve.
Hello and hugs to everyone Else out there!!

05-07-2010, 10:15 PM

Things are starting to happen fast in the garden now.

Spent a great deal of time today resting but did get my tools in order. Organized one of my cabinet tops, got brushes in one place, palette knives in another, moved the distiller. Separated the cutters from the pens and acrylic markers.

Trying to get rid of a pile of paperwork (shredding). One page at a time dernit.

Next is my work top. That is going to be a bear of a job.

05-07-2010, 10:21 PM
WOW, they surely are growing fast Howard!!
glad you had a pretty successful day and things accomplished!

05-08-2010, 08:53 AM
Holy huge cucumber Howard!

love your garden pics,, we dont have any thing planted yet here...

05-08-2010, 09:37 AM
Got my morning garden chores done, watering and a bit of weeding and trimming. Simple things.

Making bread right now.

When that is done it is off to the market for the weekly groceries.

This afternoon I pick up the show at the gallery. Gosh where did this month go?

Have some Australian Lamb's Tail Joey's to plant later today. May wait till near sunset so they don't stress out and can get moisture overnight.

guess I had best get back to cleaning.

Bread is in the oven. Can the trip to the market be far behind.

05-08-2010, 11:47 AM
Good morning all!!
slept in till after 9, and started out my day after a restless nite feeling a bit better with my feet on the floor, much less pain, still sore at times but much better.
Then getting a HUGH thank you on my facebook page from boss' daughter thanking me for the painting, guess she couldn't wait to give it to her.
SO I'm Happy!!
Going to figure out what to paint nest and get started, I did have two more backgrounds already done on two 5x7's I took with me to GA that I can do, might try the Monthy challenge.
also waiting for the guy coming to fix the heater on the spa, it died and stil under warranty! he's to arrive around 1pm.

Howrd, Sounds like you have a full day already done!

Hi and hugs to everyone out there!!
Have a great day all!!

05-08-2010, 01:32 PM
Thanks y'all. Yeah, Susan, wondering if a medication adjustment might be needed. Hoping not, but what can ya do?

I can imagine, Dee! I think you need some 'you' time as well!

Wow, Howard... can I come down for some bread? I'll help with cleaning! (as long as it's inside, I don't do heat all that well. heh)

05-08-2010, 05:58 PM
Went to the gallery to pick up the work and they want to hold on to it till Tuesday. So, gladly left it there. Gives me a few more days to clean up a bit more and gain more space.

Finally finished up shredding old paperwork and can get that out in the trash on Monday.

Bit by bit I am getting my space back. Now to keep it that way. Have to get a bit more brutal about older works and just realize that each one that is gone leaves room for a new work.

05-08-2010, 06:47 PM
Hi Guys,

Oh my gosh Kat..I've been bad we need to connect, my fault still lots of stuff going on. I'm sorry you've no energy, and feeling soo tired, yes girl I think a visit to the doctors might be in order. Hugs Even just to get "your" meds checked, I know I know but you do what ya gotta do, and trust me I do know that...:)

Shirl those lilies are beautiful, okay so let me see if I'm thinking the right thing, you made this photo from individual photos of the lilies..if that's true girl that is soooo cool!! If I'm wrong and misread it I'm just a dunce...hahaha

Sue I'm sorry you're not doing so hot either. My meds not working well either at the moment but surely not as important as when yours don't. My BP is playing high and low so I'm kind of blowing in the wind there. I hope and pray this will lift from you cutie..Hugs

Howard that silk on that corn is really pretty LOL all I could think of was a doll's hair, everything thing seems to be doing extremely well for you in your garden. All your hard work is paying off!

Hi Kathie, glad you're feet feeling better, nothing worse.

Dee Big Hugs right back at you girl..hope you get to put those feet up and just chill for a bit.

I missed this morning, so I'll say hello to Raymo, Robert, Linda, Bell, Maureen, Carol, Sharon, Ruthie, Patti, Mary hope Princess feeling better, all peekers in too.

You got it right, Elaine. Top of the class.

05-08-2010, 10:20 PM
HUGS HUGS to all!! I've been in the same kind of funk Kat and Susan.

My K kids are absolutely wearing me out this time of year. These last few weeks are tough. We are ALL tired. And I am becoming a meany! They just don't listen to a thing. I've used all the tricks up my sleeve and I just don't have any more........sigh.

Have spent the day scanning more pics in from albums as the kids were growing up. Graduation is 3 weeks away and I want to have a slide show organized. Suppose I better get a Grad. Announcement ordered soon!

Love the lilies. I am working on one now for an upcoming daylily show. Think I will disapper into my little room soon.

More HUGS to everyone.

And Happy Mother's Day to ALL!!
