About time I got off my duff and did something.

First work using gampi silk tissue and a transfer technique.

Mary, you are off to a great start
Howard, good to see your work again :) Love the blue
J-Knez, oh how cool  Looks like some other world planet.

The landscape commission is ready to hand over tomorrow and the pony is off the easel for now anyway ( still not approved tho, my friend didnt like it :( )
But I am ready for a change and so I got a painting back on my easel what only got as far as a rough-in-stage last time round before being kicked off.
So this is whats on my easel again ....

Mary your doxie in a cup is going to be cute. The other one will we good to but I like the 'cuteness' of the small doxie in a cup.

Oh Katherine, how could your friend not like the pony, it was very good in my opinion.

J-Knez I like it better with the brighter colors. Yep, you should leave it, looks like Bryce Canyon in a way, is it?

Howard this one looks like letters floating in outer space, love the blue... well I'm partial to blue anyway.

My easel has a just gessoed canvas right now. Would be pretty boring if I showed it to ya'll. :D

Thanks everyone.
Just a random landscape Patti, but yeah, kindof a southwest deserty think like moab/bryce.
Wasn't happy with this board so I painted it over. I had painted in values with umber/white and was real happy with it, then glased with too thick of paint... So I layered it up with more.

Still need to get back the good darks I had.

Not sure if I should go for some blue shadows overlay or not...

I've got a new portrait on my easel!!!! (Even though at the end of the last one I said I didn't want to touch a portrait for a while. )

This one has me excited...I love the ref pic!!!! :smug:

Got the sketch done last night & today I sealed it by spraying on a thin layer of acrylic varnish.

Lots of promising-looking stuff on your easels this week. Howard, that new one is pretty cool. What's different about the transfer process?

As for me, I'm wrapping up a piece commissioned by a buddy of mine for his wife's birthday. Just a small detail here:

Matte medium over black lava gel (black gesso base). The skulls are only visible when the light hits 'em just right. It's a nice effect; might have to do something else this way.

Bret, it is a tissue transfer. I print the image on the tissue with either a laser printer or a copy machine and then cut it close. Lay down a layer of liquid gloss medium and lay the tissue into it. Then smooth things out and get the wrinkles out.

Dee that baby is adorable. Looking forward to your progress.

I finally scanned this one that I started months ago and never finished. When I was looking for something to work on I picked it up and thought I would finish it. It is 7"x5" on matboard. I usually paint on canvas and found that matboard and I don't get along very well. :o At least I can say I finished it and moved on to something else.

I'm working on a "portrait" of a motorcycle. I need to get my circles and straight lines perfect, any suggestions are welcome!!

I can do them with ruler and circle templates, but really do need to use something other than a brush for the circles. I can tape the the straight edges.

(dogs don't have all these straight lines and circles....) :D

RobinZ, have you looked at a dip pen? Might just be the right tool. May take some practice to get accustomed to how they work.

I can tape the the straight edges. Why not mask the whole area off, draw the circles with the templates, and then cut out what you don't need? It'll take some time, but it'll give you the edges you need.

Are these hand cut skulls, screened or hand painted? I do something similar with highly dispersed interference colors and gloss medium. Makes a shadowy, etherial effect. Often thought that a silk screen might be of some value if I had the idea of doing a design more than three times.

Cool stuff - love the skulls, babies, puppies and landscapes! I actually have been working with oils lately, but I created some monotypes with Interactive Acrylics the other day on Reeves printmaking paper - yum. Calling this one Baby Dreams, because of the bright pinks and baby blues. Very, very different from my landscapes, but lots of fun!

Made a small stencil of the basic shape. Then once they were cut, I applied the matte medium with a small brush.

The funny thing was, when I first laid down the lava gel, I mainly intended it as a textural base. I was planning to drybrush some earth tones over it, till the matte/gloss idea occurred to me.

Mary, your 2 doggy portraits are coming along WONDERFULLY!!!!

You are right about the coloring being off a bit on Nicky's. What I would do is open the photo up in PhotoShop (or something similar)....zoom waaaay in on the areas in question and "sample" the colors. ( I don't know the real technical terms. ) That is how I match colors when having trouble. Granted you will be matching the colors of the photo via the monitor, not the dog, but when we are working with photos that's the best we can do.

I'd post an update of the portrait I'm currently wokring on....but my brother has taken over my desktop.....and that's where all my pics are! By introducing him to the wonderful world of the internet, I've created a MONSTER!
