This is my first experiment using texture mediums in Acrylic. I used a 30" x 20" Canvas panel support and put in a layer of moulding paste before I gave a base coat of extremely watered down mixture of Quinacridone Burnt Orange and Van Dyke Red. Once it dried, I painted on several layers of Irridiscent Copper and Gold. Then I painted in the 'lakes' with Micaceous Iron Oxide. Over it I gave another coat of Irridiscent Gold and when semi dry, scraped it off using a knife.
Any C's & C's welcome!

This is a very interesting piece. I love the texture. I really cant offer any critque as this is not something that you have referred to like in a photo per say but is your own original idea .Nice work.

Here's what I wanted the painting to convey:
‘The Lakes of Rift Valley’ is the Rift Valley formation as seen from outer space and is my vehicle of choice to convey the vagaries of life. The ‘valleys’ and ‘peaks’ are symbolic of the ups and downs of our life and the ‘lakes’ represent the blind twists and turns our lives take. The colours used in the painting convey my appreciation of this wonderful journey of life, for how can we appreciate true happiness without knowing its flip side?

Thank you Elinor! The reason I wanted C's and C's goes with what you said about not having reference points. :) I am at a loss here on how I can improve it. For some reason I think the painting is a bit bland and more can be done....but not sure what!
