Recently I received this from a Christopher Wagner via my website email:

Good day to you over there, My name is Christopher Wagner I'm from New Jersey and i hope this message finds you well.I was going through your works and my eyes caught GERANIUMS 16 x 20, i will like to have it for my new Abode. please let me know if the piece is available, if yes let me have the detailed price and more information about it. i will be waiting to read from you asap.
Christopher... "

Immediately, I thought it sounded like one of the well-known scams. But on the off-chance that it was legitimate, I responded that I only sell via invoice through PayPal and only ship after notification from them that funds have been deposited to my account. I never heard back. So, (as I told my husband as I was writing the response) this is apparently another scam attempt.

 As a New Yorker, I know nobody in New Jersey speaks like that! I fear many of them think "abode" is a cadaver ("a body") :D

My apologies to the educated New Jerseyans -- I am NOT referring to youse!

Yeah, there's a couple going around right now. The last one I saw was someone relocating to South Africa and just needed to know my account information so they could send the money.

South Africa - Nigeria, close enough.

Dot, I received an e-mail from the same name and address a couple of days ago, with the same wording. I never responded, sounded like a scam to me, and seeing your post now I guess we know! :)

I got the same one. After sending emails back and forth it looks like the scam is that they will send you a certified check with enough to cover payment for their "shipper" after you deposit the check. The only catch is that the check is bad, and you have paid the "shipper" from your own account.

Patrick Hedges in Animal & Wildlife forum (Australian) wrote a thread about this yesterday. Same name guy.

I got such scam offers a few times. One scammer went as far as saying she was in a hurry to purchase the artwork because she was going to have a baby any day LOL
Others were relocating, going out of country an so on...

Thanks, Dot!

LOL! Methinks I *might* use the word 'abode', but only if I'm reading Shakespeare at the time. The lower case 'i' not even I would use, and I'm a foreigner with lousy grammar.

Yes, it had all the signs. I really wonder why they usually miss on the 'i'?
