Greetings and howdy - looking at diagonals in composition this month. All I can say is that diagonals are very powerful for pulling the eye around. Take a look at these examples from George Seurat-Peasant with a Hoe; Rene Magritte - the Secret Player; H. Bosch -St John the Evangelist on Patmos; Raphael - Allegory-the Knights Dream; Caravaggio - the Card Sharps

Yesterday before leaving the house & while driving I saw soooo many diagonals.

I managed to squeeze this little sketch out.

It doesn't take much diagonal - it is like spice, too much and the subtilties are overwhelmed.

diagonals came up in this little sketch I did for scavenger hunt.

Sandra - yep that is a sketch of a back road area that runs along the railroad track in this town. That Seurat painting sure has hefty diagonals! You got alot of detail in that small format too.

June - yes, I see those diagonals Toby is resting on. Focusing on one thing like this makes it pop out often during the day doesn't it. This little puppy needs encouragement. Nice use of the whites

June, the puppy looks so darling and yes, the background definitely is very diagonal. Very pretty piece!!!

Oh, that Seurat painting was describing your neighborhood?
