Sorry Harry I took Alison out of the picture -this has taken 2-1/2 hrs. so far - and will probably take another 2 to 3 hrs. as there is still the background to finish plus a number of glazes to be done. It is on Canson Montval 140lb 9 x 12 watercolor W&N and Davinci.

Ooh, Kate, you just wait until Alison finds out!
I like the glaring light implied in this one. It's something we northeners were very struck by in Andalucia. I also like the solid pose of the figure. this guy really looked part of the place.

The strong light and the powerful figure are going to make this a very striking painting, I check back.

Cool! (He looks a bit like a masked fellow ... such a stark shadow on his eyes!)
A good start and keep going, Kate.

Kate, looks great so far. Like Mr. Harry's expression you gave him.
03-27-2010, 07:11 AM
Looking good - like the others say good strong contrasts already!
03-27-2010, 07:30 AM
Lots of detail in this figure and the strong light will make a striking image.

Looks like he's waiting for Allison to catch up...she's probably taking a photo of something a few yards back. Nice job on this!!
03-27-2010, 11:25 AM
Like how it has already developed. I will check back as well.

Very strong light Kate - he does look a little like a masked bandit - but his clothes don't!!! :) - so I wouldn't be afraid  Nice work.
03-27-2010, 06:00 PM
Kate, this is coming along very well! I really like the expression on his face and the sense of strong light.
03-27-2010, 07:16 PM
Nice treatment of the sun and light. Good start

Well here is the finished painting - not happy with the bushes and rocks on right side may just crop them out - but will look again tomorrow and maybe make some changes, I'm tired right now, didn't get in until midnite and decided to do this. Also thanks for all the great response and great praise on the WIP too many to list and as Betty White says "you know who you are!"
c&c's alway welcome and appreciated

Yes, you've completed the landscape and rake so things are now easier to read. The shadow under his cap seems lighter (at least in this image) which I think is better, more naturalistic. The complete item!
It occurs to me that this is an answer to Grant Wood's 'American Gothic' !

You're too funny Harry, do you think we could sell it to Espana as a 'Spanish Classic'? LOL. Yes the 'mask' is gone once you put 2 or 3 or 4 coats of skin color. Thanks very much for the nice remarks Harry!

Yup, Andalusian Gothic! :D

Kate... I like how it turned out. The figure is vibrant and stands out.. in such a way its not overpowering the piece.
