hello. I have some photos of active river water which I'd like to contribute, but when I click the link to do that , I get a message saying I don't have permission!
Can anyone advise/inform?
Here's one, which, if shows up here, does go thru, at least. :) E

hello. thx Deirdre. I've tried to contribute for several months - starting to rub against my grain, but, oh well!
You think the photo's worth something for WC ? Ed

Ed...these are worth waiting for....if you wish, you could post some in this thread whilst you await the upgrade....then at least people could see what you're talking about! Some other forums are doing the same workaround for those who can't post yet. Then...after the upgrade...you can post the high res version there. Let me know if you wish to do that and I'll change the title for you.:D

hello.
thx Deirdre. I guess "active river water" is as good a title as any. What do you suggest? Ed

Done! You just need to say these are all intended for the Reference Image Library here, on WC and are governed by the same rules:)

Ed, thank you so much! I love all three of them and saved them off to my hard drive to paint from. They're wonderful. They're also good for using with other references to compose waterfalls and flowing streams.

I hope they get the RIL uploads stuff sorted out soon. I have some things to contribute too and have occasionally just posted them to threads with notes "treat as if this is RIL" just like this.

These are all great Ed. Thanks. I may have a go with the 3rd one.

hello.
This is the base of the falls. I'm happily surprised with the camera - set to 'auto' mode. Ed

I like all of these Ed, but my absolute favourite is the first of the last set - for its repeating 's' motive....good shot!!

hello.
thx Robert, Deidre.
It's hard to get a sense of scale on the last pic., but the trees on the banks are full grown, for the most part.
Here's a close-up of the upper right corner: I was standing on the rock in the lower left when I took the photo.

I plan to go back to this location at end of summer - you won't believe the difference in the water level.

hello.
thx all for looking in. ElsieH, not to worry - glad you like the pix.
This past week there was a lot of rain in southern New England, so I had to make some time for more pix.
This group is at the dam/small river again.
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Apr-2010/203336-000_0476.jpg http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Apr-2010/203336-000_0477.jpg
there are two different exposures - one for the bright background, the other for the overspill.
the next group is a few of the ripple/light patterns at the edge of the overspill.
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Apr-2010/203336-000_0481.jpg http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Apr-2010/203336-000_0487.jpg http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Apr-2010/203336-000_0491.jpg
And the small rapids here:
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Apr-2010/203336-000_0497.jpg http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Apr-2010/203336-000_0499.jpg
For myself, the thought of painting all the activity can be overwhelming, so sometimes I'll look for a section where I can make a simple b&w charcoal sketch on paper of the big shapes/darkest values, then pull away from those darks with a tool of choice to get values shifts and motion.
Then - your eraser is your friend! = making the brightest whites.
You can use the same method with pastel if you wish, but start with just one dark colour - the method's the issue to get confidence and ' conquer the rapids '. so you have a foundation to build on.
Remember - this is on paper...you ' stubble scrubbers ' speak up and round this out for us dusters. :) Ed

hello.
These photos are at a location I finally got to this past weekend.
After a few hours, decided I had enough 'keepers' (about 30 ).
Here are some for you to enjoy/use.

Each photo is separate... no cropping
Camera is Kodak P850, setting-auto, center focus at highest value to get highest shutter speed=motion freeze.

I realize the second has a strong diagonal, but a bit of invention can deal with that...

I would like to add three more to this list. Two waterfalls and the stream below one of the falls.

The first waterfall

The riffles below the falls.

Another small fall supplied by a small lake.

Enjoy

hello.
thx John. the rocks in your first pix looks like what one of the rivers i shot, but in late August/Sept.
If the Moderators accept, maybe this thread could be a 'salon de refusee' sticky for folks who have water pixs, but can't get into RIL.

I don't see any reason, and I'm fairly sure Merethe won't either, why this thread should not be a place where people can upload their photos for the RIL, when fixed. It won't need to be stickied as it will come to the top when members either add or comment in it.:)
