In artistsnetwork.tv (http://www.artistsnetwork.tv) workshop, Bold Underpaintings for Lively Pastel Landscapes (http://www.artistsnetwork.tv), artist Richard McKinley (http://www.mckinleystudio.com/) shows you how to use underpainting techniques to set up a pastel painting for exciting responses. Richard demonstrates a variety of methods--pastel, watercolor (as well as other wet media) and thin oil paint applications. Watch as he applies a watercolor underpainting step by step to create a landscape scene, opening the door to the possibilities and letting go of control. He then goes on to complete the scene with pastels, responding to the underpainting for a lively finish. If Richard's work looks familiar...you might know him from his popular workshops or from The Pastel Journal (http://www.artistsnetwork.com/pasteljournal/) magazine for which he is a frequent contributor and blogger.

In this preview follow along as Richard shows you a variety of underpainting mediums and how they are applied to give you different effects.
