View Full Version : WDE Mar 5-Les ALyschamps ala ALAIN, muddy fish and lighthouse

03-08-2010, 10:08 PM
my first half hour was the lighthouse and boats, in bookmark format

then spent many layers and maskings to do the fish (6x9, should have masked the fish in the first place,) probably took almost 2 hours with messing about

I went to "Vangogh- A Brush with Genius" at the IMAX friday and got inspired, so noticed that the parkwalk in Gateneau resembled Les Alyschamps, so thought this a good opportunity to use my new golden opens, they are , however, not as thick as the oils he used as impasto, so just played with the colors and brushstrokes
van gogh I am not
but I do like the golden opens
this is a photo of all three together (mine is 5x7 hardboard) probably an hour or more

I have charlotte drawn out on a piece of linen drymounted to hardboard, I just put a layer of clear gesso on it today, so hope to paint it this week

I Love the freshness of the bookmark....
As for les Alyschamps, sorry Vincent, just a coincidence. Next time I'll submit a bouquet of sunflowers....
Altogether, great experimentation and good results.

thanks everyone for you lovely comments, and thanks Robert for the church at Auvers sur Oise, I found Van Goghs version as well and have drawn it out, I will attempt that as well and post it in the Daily painting thread.
I did get the base coat of charlotte down, but not finished yet, hope to have it done this afternoon, and will get it posted here, but maybe in the overflow thread.
