View Full Version : WDE 5 Mar 10 - Coconut & Strawberries... poss MI

It's taken me all weekend to do this as I've felt so unwell. I've had to do bits here and there, kinda pick up and put down.

Also I've had paper problems. I wanted to use a nice coloured background so selected a pastel paper. As I was using Polys I had so much trouble wiht layering. I usually put down my tonal darks and build up on them top. It wasn't having it. The first layers went down beautiful but then it was like trying to add layers to plastic. Oh well here it is.

'Cocunut & Strawberries'
12" x 9" Daler Rowney Murano Pastel paper 160 gsm - dark Grape.
FC Polychromos Colour pencils.
Total time:
5hr 30 mins

Here are the 2hr and 4hr photos
Couldn't scan it as it was on a board.

I did run off 4 to do, including a couple in OPs (but don't have the right paper as my order has been delayed, and an acrylics, but I've not been weell enough).

I might do another if I can tomorrow.

Thanks to AlainJ for hosting and the lovely images.
Thanks for looking please call again.

Scan is dark, lighter in RL.

Lovely red strawberries. Paper makes all the difference in whatever media, doesn't it.

Lin, that is INCREDIBLE! You just embarrassed me about my little pastel pencils one -- but then you weren't working with a limited palette of pastel pencils and I didn't spend five hours on it either.

Thank you all so much for the kind comments.

Between cats and cat-napping I haven't really been up to much this weekend. Expecting to do 4 was over-ambitious even for my armchair art.

I managed to do a coupel today - just playing around really. I do a lot of these little 'cut out' practices in my sketchbook. I take a section of a picture, put it into a 2" frame and just do a detail. It's good practice.

I did this one of Mulligan.... about 30 mins CP in sketchbook

I also want to do this one, but dont' have the right support as I want to do it in OPs and I'm waiting for a delayed order. I did some preliminary sketches to get a sense of movement....

Then I was going to do this in acrylic but didn't feel up to getting out my paints. So I did it in CP in my sketchbook. A mix of Inktense for the reef and sea and various CPs for the rest.

About 2 hours
