View Full Version : Once Upon a Time - Kay Nielsen - March 2010

Hi - This month's children Illstrator thread will feature the awesome artist - Kay Nielsen - (l886 - 1957)
He was born in Denmark. Studied in Paris and ended up working with Walt Disney but was a pauper towards the end of his life. How could it be? He was an amazingly talented artist.
So lets enjoy his art as he no doubt did. Else why would he have persisted despite the lack of monetary encouragement. A true artist to the bone must he have been. Imitation is best - I don't think we can outright copy because he hasn't been gone long enough for that.

Oh yes! I can really go for those long skinny legs! Can't wait to have a try at this.
Some of his work looks a bit Art Nouveau - kind of elongated and curving lines. I like it.

Lovely Janet - it just exudes your personality and his combined -
Here is my WIP though it too is just a doodle - I did this without a pencil sketch underneath to lost my way when applying the masking. To finish tonight would be good.

I was testing out my Derivian Liquid Pencil sepia permanent. It's hard to use.
Added Daniel Smith watercolor and Faber Castell Polycrhomos colored pencils.

Really like this on, Sandra. Sort of scary with a safe haven in the woods.
