Capture Light and Color in Pastel
Artistsnetwork.tv (http://www.artistsnetwork.tv) favorite, Jackie Simmonds, starts out this video workshop, Pastel Workout, Part 2 (http://www.artistsnetwork.com/video_preview.aspx?id=14210), with exercises on the color wheel to help you understand how the pastels you choose can manipulate the viewer's eye. She then demonstrates how light affects the colors you see by painting a tree and a flower. Jackie finishes up with a full painting demo from start to finish—follow along as she paints a little corner of a Greek village with white steps and wonderful shadows, using a complementary color scheme to help set the quality of light in the scene.

In this preview, watch how the colors you choose affect the light as Jackie paints two trees, one in overcast light and one in bright sunshine.
