This is fun project with middle school:
Self Portrait Body Tracings
Have students pair up with a partner. Hand out full body length sized sheets of butcher paper. Have students trace each other's outline.
Paint with two colors of choice (suggest complementaries). When dry use magazines to collage elements into the painting
Excellent!
I remember when I was in grade school our teacher had us do something similar. We did the tracing on butcher paper, but then glued our cut out to stiff cardboard. Then we bent the cardboard so that our image could sit in our chair for open house. We used color crayons, scraps of cloth, anything we could find to create what we thought would represent our image. What a hoot. All the parents got to see if they could find their childrens likeness and when the open house was over, we got to take our cut outs home with us.
hummm... wonder what happened to mine.... is that what was always so scary under the bed?

Those are fabulous! I have been looking for some new ideas related to self-image and this might be the trick!
