That time again....Happy Painting Everyone!

01-24-2010, 11:17 AM

Took a goodly portion of yesterday to get this done. Taping, sealing, sealing, painting. The drying time was greatly increased by the material used to create the pattern. Waiting 24 hours before I do anything else.

01-24-2010, 01:31 PM
Looks great Howard! Looks like a door, are you going to put something on the sides?Did more work on my rose, darkening it and adding water drops.First try at water drops. How do they look?Thanks,Janhttp://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/24-Jan-2010/21385-Rose_003.JPG ks,Jan

Hello all!
Howard, awesome look!! This one is really different, Loving it!1
Jan, wow , looks fabulous!! Love the water droplets! looks better with the darks!

here us an update, did a little work on the clouds, right grass and sand; will try for a better closeup!

01-24-2010, 06:34 PM
Zena, very nice! You night consider darkening the background below the blossom just a bit....IMO, might make it "pop" a bit more. The lighter area there doesn't read "right". And have just a bit more of a "highlight" in each dewdrop...kind of like the highlight in an eye.

Howard, is that Liquid Silver that you used for the "panes"???

I'm kind of stalled on my bird, I've had trouble with that far wing & I've reisited the urge to gesso over that portion.

01-24-2010, 06:36 PM
Kathie.....looking good! I love watching yours progress!

Kathrin G.
01-24-2010, 06:37 PM
Howard, love the rich colours
Jan, lovely rose, like the colour very much.
Kathie, fantastic already

01-24-2010, 08:05 PM
THANK YOU Dee and Kathrin!

01-24-2010, 08:46 PM
Thankyou Dee and Kathrin! I will do that and thankyou Dee! Appreciate the help greatly!
Kath, your painting is looking great! Hugz,Jan

01-24-2010, 09:47 PM
Kathie, the speed that you are working those cows is amazing. It is looking great.
Jan, I agree with Dee, especially about adding a little more reflected light into the dew drops. The rose is gorgeous, really well done.
Howard I like where you are going so far with this one. I really like the strong red. Anxious to see what else you are going to do with it.
This is where I have gotten with the bear. Depending how the day goes tomorrow I'll either tackle him, or just finish all the grasses down to a level with his feet.http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/24-Jan-2010/151124-Picture_002.jpg http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/24-Jan-2010/151124-Picture_003.jpg

Hi All,

Sharon, your grass, rocks and all are wonderful. Can't wait to see the bear come to like!
Kathie, your cows are great as always!
Howard, always fun to see where you go with your pieces.
Zena, love your water spots!

Here's my latest attempt. It's from a ref I took last week of a frosty fogging day. Fortunately there will be lots of winter trees and shrubs to cover up the bridge imperfections and perspective problems.

01-24-2010, 11:50 PM
"blue vertigo"
just finished this one yesterday.

01-25-2010, 12:58 AM
Your bear painting is really looking awesome! Love your rocks and grasses too!

Hi Carey! Love the background colors, fabulous!

here is an update, not realy much different,

ohhhh did I mention this is my LARGEST yet.. its a 24x36" canvas!!!

worked mostly on the sand and water a little, and a bit on the grasses on the hill. also included a closeup of the couds, sorry a glare in the upper left on the full painting update.. and you can't see the clouds. so added two others.

for the humane society booth this saturday, i'm going to be painting our Beloved Vinnie.(8x10 canvas)
here is one of my favorite photos and the underpainting I did.. the rest will be done on saturday.

Kathrin G.
01-25-2010, 03:06 AM
Sharon, wow  This will be great. What size is it ?
Ruthie, great start  Looks very foggy :)
Carey, reminds me of New Years celebration, very nice
Kathie, this is HUGE  But its looking truly fantastic  Love the start on little Vinnie  ((hugs))

01-25-2010, 03:23 AM
Howard...nice....sort of a window/doorway to the soul right now...be watching!!

Jan...looking good!! Have not tried water drops yet...I am chicken...

Coming right along, Kathie!! I like this alot!

Sharon...you continue to amaze me!!

Great start, Ruthie!!

Carey...normally, abstract kind of loses me...but I really, truly like this!!!

Surprise....this is STILL on my easel...took time out for DS...but I am gonna get this one!!! I know it needs some more shading....

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/24-Jan-2010/51170-horsejump4x.jpg The colors are close...but 'not quite'...when I reddened her shirt it made the horse brown...sigh.

I still need to finish the donkey one....

and then...I forgot I had this....taken in the 1880's or 90's of my paternal grandmother and her father. Something about the clothes, the pose....not sure...just gonna have to try it!

01-25-2010, 09:06 AM
WOWEE!! FANTASTIC Kath! You are so fast with your painting,or is it that i'm so slow,LOLOL,Aww,Vinnie is looking great too! Hugz,Jan

01-25-2010, 09:09 AM
THANKYOU Sus!! Your paintings are looking great! So much work!
I know, lol,i had to muster up my courage for the water drops too, lol.Hugz,Jan

01-25-2010, 09:37 AM
Zena, you are getting there. The droplets are coming along nicely.

Sharon, oh how I like the subtle transitions in your polar bear painting. The colors are exquisite. The golden tones are a delight for the eyes.

Carey, nicely done.

Kathie, your pastoral is coming along quite nicely. The preliminary of Vinnie is great, you really captured him.

Sue, you really are improving. Keep it up girl.

Great painting day all.

01-25-2010, 09:43 AM
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/25-Jan-2010/8436-k.jpg  Theres some really nice paintings here ........ i've been working on this for a little while, its got stuff to go in the forground and a lot of other work. I really hope to finish it this week.......

01-25-2010, 10:12 AM
Susan, looks wonderful! I have LOTS of vintage stuff I want to do someday. I have one of my grandmother in the most interesting clothes. Time time.....

Meeeow, I like this! We both have winter on our easels!!
Here's my update where I finished last night.

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/25-Jan-2010/117502-1-25-10_035.jpg (http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/Uploader/upload_image_save2.php#)

I was in a hurry this morning, so it's a bit blurry. Will work some more tonight.

01-25-2010, 10:12 AM
Kathrin, Thanks Yes it is big but not as difficult to work on as I thought!

Sue, Thanks! the jumper is looking great, only thng I would suggest is some softer tones of grass, uo push it a little farther back, try mixing your dark grren with a little raw sienna and some bright yellow, to tone it down some, I've even added some browns and white, with reds/blues for sahdows, I think lighter grass is better in the ditance, ohh I still live the donkey one, that portrait is fantastic, will be quite a challenge.

Jan, THANK YOU! I still get teary eyed sometimes working on Him!

Howard, Thanks so much, it means a lot to me!

Cloe, Hi and welcome!! Love this snowy scene, great colors and depth to this one. its Gorgeous!!

01-25-2010, 10:40 AM

Jan, realy looks great I'd call it done!

01-25-2010, 11:20 AM
Zena, if you proclaim it to be done, then it is done. Nicely finished.

meeeow, coming along nicely.

rput, I have a bunch of old family photos that have some rather intriguing clothing as well. I am assuming at the time they were a bit stylish. Fun stuff.

New work is coming along. Here is where I got this A.M. before having to prep for a meeting.

01-25-2010, 11:53 AM

still working on my lion cub painting and having a hard time with the tree trunk :o

01-26-2010, 08:39 AM
Susan, youíve really captured the movement of the horse beautifully, and I really love the donkeys. If you do decide to try the old photo talk to Kim. She seems to really have a knack with them.
Meeeow, what a great old house. I like the way you have captured the softness of snow.
Ruthie, I am liking that bridge more and more. I especially like the palette youíve chosen for it.
Jan, those water droplets look much more authentic now. Great job.
Howard I never saw the blue coming. I think thatís what I like most about watching you paint.
Hi Snail, welcome to the woye. Very colorful. I like the way you have handled the trees in the upper corners.
Kathrin, I canít see from this angle where you are having trouble with the trunk. It looks great from here. I adore that pose. Might I suggest some scratch marks on the bark, to show that this is a favored scratching spot.
Have a great day painting everyone.http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/26-Jan-2010/151124-Picture_004.jpg

Hopefully I can start the bear today.

01-26-2010, 10:33 AM

01-26-2010, 09:02 PM
Haven't been on here to see all the great work, I know I must have missed a lot. I'll try and catch up on some of the entries.
Here's a little landscape, mini 4 inch square. I had this little frame hanging around and just had to fill it with something. RIL was my source of reference for it. xxxshrl
Ps. is the path too centered?:(

Idylbrush, Love that wall, lots of detail doing those bricks

01-26-2010, 11:46 PM
Thanks very much for the comments, they are most encouraging. I only started painting a month ago and don't really know what I'm doing, so I really appreciate it. You are all so talented -- it is very inspiring. Thanks for sharing your work!

01-27-2010, 06:25 AM
Hello everybody.... thanks so much for the comments and for making me feel welcome :-) I'ts really interesting seeing everyones work and how their paintings are progressing. I'd like to comment personaly on each but i can't find how to look back at previous pages while writing my reply :-(

I have nearly finished my pic (it will be the first that i've actually finished ever!! Have problems with ending them i don't know why!)

I willpost an update tonight........

01-27-2010, 10:59 AM
The quickest way is to use the post reply not the quick reply and just scroll down. All the posts will be in reverse order i.e. last first, etc.

01-27-2010, 03:27 PM
Holy crap! A girls gets sick and all heck breaks loose here!

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/26-Jan-2010/113357-cub_5_WC.jpgAh - ha. That answers my question.. :D Here you are :p

01-27-2010, 06:21 PM
Still life;

01-27-2010, 07:01 PM
WOW!! Love your lion Kathrin! And the still-life is awesome! Hugz,Jan

01-27-2010, 07:34 PM
JJ... that banana looks awsome!

01-27-2010, 07:57 PM
OMG....so much to respond to!

Anoop, delicately beautiful rose!!!!!!!!

Purple....no, IMHO...the road isn't to centered! I like this!!! :wink2:

Kathrin, there is a woody/vine-y thing that grows here that reminds me of the "scratching-post" in your painting. I pulled my hikers on & tromped off into the woods to take some pics........but not enough light to get a half-way decent shot!

BTW....GeeWop thinks I've lost my ever-loving mind! She was happy about the tromp through the woods but just could NOT figure out the "object of the game". Maybe this weather we are having NOW will hold through tomorrow...and I can get a better pic, in better light.

Everyone else........wonderful, as always!

Now I have to go get out of my wet boots & pluck out the briars.

01-27-2010, 08:11 PM
thanks for the comments on my last painting!

Wish I had more time to look at everyones work, what I've see is sooo good.

01-27-2010, 09:02 PM
Snail, Hi well funny thing I only startec painting 2 yrs ago and started posting in here 2 months after starting , and look!! All The great folks here have been so helpful along the way with tips, suggestions, critiques that has really aided me in fine tuning my talent that I didn't realize I had. I'm still learning things and I guess we always will. just keep posting your finished pieces and works in progress here too !! I have everyone here to thank for their help!! practice, practice and practice works!!!

Chloe, what I do is open up an email and type in it while viewing the posts here and on the Quick dry cafe and make comments as I read them.. then I copy and past it into a POST REPLY text box. then if something happens to the post and didn't post I haven't lost all my info, so I Can go back and redo it.
hope it helps.

Mary, THANK YOU!! Hope you feel better soon!!
JJ, Hi good to see you here, great still life so far!!

............. you guys are such great artists!!! I can't express enough what super work you are all doing!

Patti thank you..

Kathie thanks it is great to be back in the forum again. This is the first time I had really been able to do any painting since I started my trip, and I sure have missed it. It is so good to be back in front of an easel albeit a temporary one.. (A square of plywood screwed onto my girlfriends tripod)

Kathrin, I would make the texture of that tree trunk finer if it were mine. Just a thought..

01-27-2010, 09:50 PM
how do you guys take pictures of your pictures?

01-27-2010, 10:19 PM

Wow - as usual I am so inspired and impressed by all the works here!
Will have to come back to comment , but here is what's on my easel. A commission - of the nicest kind!

I think I finished the last church painting, will try to put that in a new thread.
One more angel waiting in that series.

01-27-2010, 10:22 PM
Barbara, that is VERY cool!

01-27-2010, 10:32 PM
Fabulous Barbara!!
What great depth!!

01-27-2010, 10:43 PM
I will lay mine on the floor in front of a natural light source, or I leave it on the easel and set the easel upright straight not on a lean and take the picture with my digital SLR set on auto.

01-28-2010, 12:34 AM
More wonderful stuff here!
Howard, that is impressive. I love the large size.
Anoop, beautiful flower. Thanks for sharing your work with us!

JJ, yep, you found me  Now where do I go :p  The tree trunk will get more definition eventually, but I got instructions from a dear WC friend to start the cub so that I can adjust the values of the trunk better later on. So I am off painting furry feet :D

Thanks Meeeow!!

JJ so glad to have you back!!

Nice Barbara!

I'll eventually get out & take pics of those weird big vines....but I'm just working too darn much! Not that the pics will necessarily be of any use to you....but I'm very curious as to what they are!

My little birdie still has a freaky wing!!! :crying: I need a 'sugar daddy' so I can quit working & just paint!!!!

01-29-2010, 12:06 AM
Hubby was out of town tonight, so got to spend time at the easel.
Here's an update with the foreground trees blocked in.
Next I'll cover them with snow and frost.

Ruth, really starting to like this one.

Here is as far as I have been able to get so far. It is turning into a long process.

Ruth, the misty river bridge scene is really looking good. Just a few finishing touches and you'll have a winner.

Thank you Kathrin, JJ, Mary, Zena, Bob, Howard, Susan and All! It means alot to have all your support. I'm liking this as well and already thinking I like to do something similar, but bigger.
No work tonight. Took my K Kids to Hawaii today, (We left at 12:15 and were back by 2:45! Whew, it was a fun but busy and quick!) and I'm worn out. Couch time for me.

Most of the "dots" have been sponged on. The squares were sprayed and just a few of the dots were sprayed.

Here is the final, at least I hope it is the final.

thats an interesting picture Howard. I like it.
here's the little painting (half A4 sized box canvas) I started this afternoon..its a commission from Christine a lady at work. This one is for her landlady, the tulip tree is in her garden and then I have to do another slightly different one for Christine herself .
