View Full Version : WIP--welcoming C&C!!

Hi folks!

It's been quite some time since I've painted. Finally started a new one yesterday. It is to be a woman playing piano--part of a musical series I've had going.

I'm using bits and pieces from two photo refrences, so the positioning is rather awkward... She needs a lot of work still, and the back ground is under construction, so this is a very early stage.

I'm all ears--or eyes--as to read your comments and suggestions!;)

The back of her neck looks a little weird. She looks good on the whole though.

I thought I was going to stop for a bit... but I did a bit more still...
I'll take a better picture soon. I'm missing a part to my good camera and it's a dismal dark day today...

Beautiful Jenny.
There is something about her right hand that seems awkward. Maybe it is me, 'Cause I sure couldn't do anything this lovely.
Good to see you back...

Simply beautifully done!

Susan, Kathleen and Gayle--thank you so much for your kind comments! I will have a look at that right hand again tomorrow with fresh eyes.

I love her expression Jenny and the way you painted her left hand! I think the thumb is just a bit awkward looking on the right hand but it should be easy to fix. Lovely work!

Thanks Lillian!

I've had some time to look over the hand and see the problems now. Now I need to find the time to correct them. Will post the make over, hopefully, soon.

lovely feel to this painting already

Thank-you so much Kathrin.

I went back and reworked her right hand. The positioning of the finger and thumb were twisted somewhat, and I had a few people tell me the fingers were too long. I didn't shorten them much. A few other touch ups here and there. Again, i had to use a flash since it's just too dark, so there's some glare in the darkest areas.

Anyone with comments or critiques, your opinion is surely appreciated!

This is a great WIP! You've taken the advice given and made this artwork stand out. I love the gesture she has playing the piano, consumed by what she is doing. Hands are well done. If I had to nitpick anything I would say darken the 2 black keys on the piano in between her hands to match the rest......... Fine painting Jenny..............
