View Full Version : WDE Dec 20 The Lone Flamingo

 Hi Everybody! I'm so happy to be able to join you all this weekend!
This took me a bit more than 2 hours...more like 3...painted in acrylic on 9" x 11" wrapped canvas. No pre-draw, which might account for the wonky proportions  and I took some liberties with the background. I may do some tweaking yet on the bird's feathers.
Wonderful references, Elain - thank you so much and for hosting! I'm enjoying seeing what everyone has done with these beauties!

I love your background and the pink of the flamingo is just perfect against it.
Foreground is exciting as well. A beautiful painting. I think the light is what sets off the bird and the foreground so well.

that is so lovely Elizabeth that I am going to bore WC WDE on how the pink Flamingo's came to Auckland zoo
We got a new curator who began the pride lands project, he wanted pink flamingo’s as one of the wild animals on show, but NZ has a no import on birds and they couldn’t import the eggs because they are porous & couldn’t be cleaned so Michael the head keeper & another zoo keeper when to the a UK bird sanctuary & in isolation they hatched out & hand raised the birds after 3mths & clearance from MAF the birds were brought in to NZ
this is a more interesting storey than I make it Michael did a talked for our bird club we got to see the birds in the evening they were lovely to see
