Acrylics, 8 by 12 ins, card.

OK, nothing like a real shag. I was trying out sand mixed with gesso for textures and this started off as an abstract. The shapes looked bird-like and so I 'did' the shag!!:D

Anyway, I got in a mess, (paint up to my elbows, etc), and found I rather liked the effect of the metallic paint over the sand.

See you later.

You will have to tell people what I do when I get paint all over me (which is most of the time) is that I really get into my work. This is interesting and I never heard of putting sand in the paint. Will it hold up well? Can think of some things to try it on.

Great image, June. Birdwatchers might not approve of the liberties you've taken but it makes for a lovely picture!

Yes I agree...when I get really messy, it means I've really had a great time.

Misswiss....To use the sand for textures, I mixed the sand with gesso and then put it on the card, used a tool to make lines etc., and let it dry. Then used the paint on top. This way the gesso keeps the sand glued to the card. But I suppose you could also mix sand in the acrylic paint...as it is a kind of glue. I never tried it that way.

Many thanks for the lovely comments everyone.

I'd like to do 'Possum' the cat, but don't know when I'll get around to that:D
