It's been quite a while since I've done an acrylic painting.

Thought I'd share this one with you. I captured some great images of a sun-back-lit white Arabian horse, and thought it would come out OK. I often do ACEOs (2.5x3.5") and intended this to be one, but to use the image elsewhere I decided to make it 3.5x3.5" and cut it down afterwards.

All these images are SLIGHTLY smaller than life-size.

It's done on canva-paper, by Canson.

I roughly drew the horse image on the pad. I'm just using a corner of it.

Then I blocked in the background. I adore the deepness of Hookers green.

I then enhanced the background. I used some metallic gold in the foliage, too.

I then worked on the foreground.

I then enhanced the foreground - in particular, the tall grasses, the horse was chomping on.

Then I started on the horse, blocking in my colors.

As a final step, I enhanced the detail in the horse.

This is a scan of the finished work - but shows up the textured surface too much - it looks a lot better than this.

Yup. I tend to work small most times, though this isn't as small as I go. :)

Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for looking & commenting.

Hello, ChampagneHarley! This is a lovely little painting- mind if I ask where you took the ref image? I live just south of Medford, in Ashland, actually. Which road was this guy on? I just love the background- blackberries? Beautiful all around. Nice work.

Hello there. I live on a ranch on Modoc Road (Tue Velle?), on the banks of the Rogue River. And these are blackberry bushes and bull rushes? I don't go into that paddock, but had a clear view to there from the deck of the house I live in. The horses were a mixture. I couldn't get over that they weren't 'riding' horses. They were only paddocked here, not part of the ranch. They haven't been here since spring. They sure messed up the ground. I'm about 30 miles from Ashland. Glad you could recognize that they were blackberries. :) Thank you.
