View Full Version : Princess Flower

This is my little Princess Flower, its actual name is Tibouchina urvilleana. This is naturally native of Brazil, where it reaches impressive size, but for me it is a little standard in a pot, living indoors. During summer she goes outside and rewards me with the most beautiful electric purple blue flowers.

Nature is way more gracious than any human can be. If I were to put together red and purple I would probably be critiqued by anybody with knowledge or color theory, but in nature it happens and it looks beautiful. This plant has the baby blossoms true rusty red, and the flowers purple. These two colors are found together as the flowers are in different stages.

Anyway, enough lecture, this is my painting of one of my favorite flowers. It is on ColourFix paper , standard size ( I think 9/12) The underpainting was done in Panpastels, with softies on top.
CC welcome

Absolutely wonderful painting! The sense of light and the depth is outstanding and the forms of the flowers very well depicted! Red and purple go very well together, and purple and green is one of nature's most beautiful color combinations! The hints of blue also make this painting sing!! I love the level of detail and looseness, too!

Can you tell that I like this painting a lot!!
