If I don't mess up, this will be a gift for a friend at Christmas. They own an Irish Wolfhound (Emer) and a Bishon Frisee (Elvis).

Part of my problem will be the wooden thing they are on. But I'll tackle that at the end I guess.

8x10 board.

Great start! I feel your pain I am working on some wood railing and I am not at all secure about it.
You, however, look like you have it down.

I'm sure by the time you finish the wood....You'll have to have it treated with termite repelant just to keep them away! :D
In other words...It's lookin Great so far!

Thanks again everyone. Just starting to layer fur for Emer. Elvis isn't quite done, I'll have to fix a few spots, etc.

The fur on Emer is looking very nice - I like the way you've done that. Maybe Elvis needs a bit more contrast but I suspect you'll be doing that with some washes.

Thanks Bonnie, and thanks Patrick. Yes some contrast washes will be applied. Just working on Emer's fur at the moment.

Sue, this is an outstanding board. I really like the different textures, the color, and the composition is fantastic. White critters are difficult at best and you have handled it very well.

Wonderful work Sue, especially on Emer's hairy coat, both in coloring and scratching. Doing Elvis's face must have been difficult at that angle but you got it! Well done Dusty!

OK, you can all rip it apart now :) :) :) What is there to rip apart?? It's really nice!! I love both heads as it screams 'character'!!

Ok, one thing, and only one thing as far as I can see, the horizontal part of the wood on the lower left - well, just have a think about whether this would work. It doesn't look quite horizontal because of the way the grain is going. It might be this way in the reference but it may be worth changing it. Here's a very amateur mock up of what it would look like if the direction was changed and also faded out as it recedes just to create that illusion of horizontal'ness' (new word) and depth. Just a thought and I might even be wrong. Of course, if you did it, you'd have to do the same to the tiny bit on the lower right too. :)

Dusty, Sorry I haven't been in on much of the work here lately. I sure am glad that I got to this one. Great work. I think you can do any subject you want, you are very versatile. Either of these beauties would be difficult but to do both on one board, WOW. Super job. Rick

What a cute pair of dogs! From the title, I thought it was going to be a painting of Elvis Presley and a friend on black velvet  but this is way, way better!!
