As a new artist and new to WC, this is my first post and my first Marine Life painting. It's oil, 12" x 16" on canvas. I'd appreciate your critques and comments. Thanks. CC

Hello Ccpaints welcome to the Marine forum. I really like your painting especially the way the light hits the tree in parts, the sea is beautifully painted. A real winner.

Welcome to the Marine Art Forum, Carolyn
You have done very well indeed with this piece, Carolyn. Colour is good, especially in sky and sea. Watch that horizon line, it's a bit lumpy.
The tree is very dominant. I would have been tempted to reduce it's mass and open the scene up some more.
It's a good piece for one new to painting, Carolyn. I think you should be very encouraged.

Nice work, Carolyn. The ocean is very well done, as is the tree and background. A couple of suggestions; as Marty suggested, try and level the horizon line. Also, the tree is lit from the sun on the left, I think it would be casting a very large shadow on the right.
The way you have the sunlight spotted in the tree is very effective and really sets a mood. Very well done, overall.

Welcome to WC, Carolyn! This is my idea of a little piece of heaven...would be so nice to be walking along that beach and feeling the ocean breeze. Wonderful work!

Thanks, Marty and Ron, for the great tips. I really appreciate your input. I see, now that you've mentioned it, that I need a more defined tree shadow, and I'll fix the horizon. Again, thanks. Carolyn
