This is my first painting, Surprise Butterfly. I painted it under the supervision of my art teacher, and I am pretty pleased with how it came out.

It's based on a photo by my wife, which you can see here (http://ladysea.deviantart.com/art/Surprise-Butterfly-125111480), if you like.

I did it as an indirect painting using wet-in-wet layers and a few glazes. I resisted the urge to select the butt icon since the butterfly is naked. :)

C&C greatly appreciated.

Oh, no. :( I forgot what subforum I was in. This was supposed to go in the basic Oil Painting forum. Will PM a mod to ask them to move it.

Well done, Eric! The butterfly is very well-observed and you have a good composition here. You should definitely be very pleased with this.

Welcome to oils and to WC, great first painting! Now that you've caught the Oily Bug you'll have to post many more paintings. :)

I would report your erotic work, but it's just classy enough. Your painting is great, especially as an introductory piece. I'm sure you'll only get better as you continue on and hone those natural skills!

nice job, if you take a good look, you will see what the painting needs to be more interesting.

Thanks to everyone for your kind and thoughtful comments.

@wetbob - Yes, you are probably right. More brown, and/or gray would match the true colors better.

@NCABSTRACT - What do you mean when you say "interesting"?
