After the 3 horse paintings (one after the other), my muse took a break for a week or so. Cant blame her I guess
When inspiration came back, it was for a photo from the RIL here and weirdly enough..... a landscape. The very thing what made me nearly rip up my last horse painting
After a bad start on it and me nearly chucking it out after my 2nd session on it, a miracle must have happened. Because in the next 3 sessions it practically painted itself :music: :D
it isn't signed yet, but I think it is pretty much finished. I can see some minor things which I might or might not fix tho.
All C+C is very welcome

I like the detailing on the tree trunks and landscape. I feel the sky could use some more work though. Not sure what, it looks fake or a little "paint by numbers" for some reason. Maybe Ireland skies are different than over here?

Lovely work, Kathrin. Well done! I like this very much.

I think we all go through those stages with our paintings...they get to a point that they look absolutely ugly and you want to walk away from them, but then they miraculously come together....and sometimes, they don't!

Cheers,
Georgi :cat:

IMO, the sky is just fine. Just a slightly hazy sort of sky...I see them often.

Kathrin, you have brought exactly the same type of exquisite detailing to this landscape as you use doing your horses!!!!

Do you think perhaps using an actual ref pic for the landscape is what made the difference?

I know when I paint a landscape from imagination it looks, well "imaginary". But when I go by a ref pic....even if I don't follow it precisely...there is a big difference. It looks more realistic, and I have an easier time with perspective, lights & darks...everything.

You have done a fabulous job....can't wait to show Zoie!

You should do more landscapes Kathrin ;) ....... this is super.
Your foreground and trees are so well built - beautifully painted but I feel the middle distance trees look a little unfinished - an afterthought? .... or a 'What do I do with these?l thought?
I don't mean that in any derogatory kind of way - you know me better I hope!
They perhaps just need slightly more definition/high-lighting to get roundness/form.

first of all..... I forgot to thank the photographer :o ...I am so sorry.
So thank you to artist60164 for the reference  I didnt try to copy it, rather use it as something to guide me. All go well, you can find the ref here (http://www.wetcanvas.com/RefLib/showphoto.php?photo=85483).

Courtney, thank you for looking in :) I know the sky could have been more detailed maybe. But for my first proper landscape, it will do. I shall try more on the next attempt.
Georgi, thank you very much  I think this is my biggest learning curve from graphite, the dreaded ugly stage dont really happen that extreme with graphite.
Dee, thank you  I think once I started taking that big landscape and breaking it up into chunks....it was easier. And yes, having the ref did help
Let me know what my favorite little critique says please :wink2: I do value her opinion a lot.
Maureen, thank you too :) I appreciate your input. Now that you pointed those trees out.....yes.... I will work on those more  They started off well enough, but then I wanted to push them back and just covered them up with some Sienna and never got back to them  Glad you mentioned them :)

Wow Kathrin, I think it looks wonderful. You should paint more landscapes. Your journey into acrylics is going very well.

Kathrin, thanks for directing us to the ref pic! You did a marvelous job of pulling the best out of that photo and laying it on your canvas. The changes you made...IMO...only made the overall image quite improved. I like the "pushing back of the mid-ground trees", it gives it a much more openness to the view! And the slightly more blue sky really makes those white birch pop!

Susan, thank you :D I fixed up those trees ...I hope ...
Patti, thank you very much :) I am sure glad to be here
Dee, once again.....thank you  as I said, I worked with the ref, but didnt want to copy too closely. I saw it more open then the ref gave it.
Steve, a heartfelt thank you :) It means a lot.
Robert, thank you too  :D

I hope I fixed those trees some. Looks better in real life, the scan is a bit harsh on them. Fixed up the other 2 little things that bothered me anyway while I did that too.
I forgot to add as well that this is 9 inch x 11inch, painted on mount-board with W&N Artist Acrylics

You did a beautiful job on everything!

I always break my paintings up into parts and worry about one at a time. I get overwhelmed easily, lol.

What a comeback you've made since your day of frustration with the background on the horse. So pleased to see you hang in their girl! It's all been said so well, I'd feel redundent to say what I feel. Your talent seems to show through regardless of the subject you choose! Love seeing your works and your threads. Keep 'em coming! Zoie says......."That would look good in the dollhouse livingroom!" "I really like the how you did the water...its so blue, and those leaves & trees are really cool!"

(A great deal of thought went into her choices of "smilies".)

And she has deemed it "DONE"! :smug:

Zoie is such a hoot!

I think it's better than the ref too!
I looked at the ref's little tree on the right but note you've made it part of your foreground tree's foliage so as not to confuse the issue! Good thinking :D

It really is a lovely painting Kathrin - so, to you and
