this is my very first sketch and im yet to start my second. i used just a pencil and eraser on a sketch pad. any tips or advise would be welcome. dont hold back from posting harsh critiques please as im unsure what im doing right or wrong.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
i have no idea what im doing so any help with shading or lines or what to use when sketching in future would be especially helpful!

I'd say for a first sketch, this is great! Keep making them, and with each, you will learn things.

I'm not sure what to say about this piece, other tthan it shows promise and that I'd encourage you to just keep drawing!

Looks good, just keep doing what you're doing and keep at it. Maybe start adding some sharper and darker lines next. Good luck.

A pencil is a wonderful tool. Try getting some of different softness .. you'll have fun with them. Nice sketch too!

Cerevizi! Welcome to the WetCanvas! Your version at this point seems to have a sense of originality that I hope comes to fruition, and not just another regal beast, king of the jungle.

thank you all so much for your input! im going to buy some new pencils today of different kinds which should help with the detail. As for corbys comment on the king of the jungle... i altered the structure of the lion and changed the order of boldness because when i saw a lion at the zoo he seemed quiet and wise but also somehow soft, like his spark was gone. it made me feel kind of sad for what he should have been. so i sketched with him in mind because he affected me. i dont know if thats the right thing to do, and my sketch doesnt ooze power and pride like a lion should, but it felt right and im happy with it.

I agree.. anytime we paint something that has an emotional effect on us is good and if the viewer connects with that it is even better.
