Title: I hate it when this happens

I'm not very comfortable with painting figures, but conceived this idea and laid some paint down before I had time to talk myself out of it. I'm not happy with her right hand & will repaint that.
MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
I have a tendency to take my paintings too far, so I'm wondering if this is enough. I'm tempted to add more details; debris on the ground, signs on the icecream stand, maybe some texture to the cement...<br>Also, I'm concerned that the two elements are not really connecting - can I correct this compositional error?

I think it works without the hands. Her left one is too small in proportion to the legs, and her right one is, well, another left hand. Look at where the thumb is in relation to the palm.
The rest of the piece is really fun, and i think it is a good one. I'd lose the arms and hands.
Thankyou Lynn! I never thought about removing the arms & hands altogether, so I photoshopped it to see the effect.... brilliant! I struggled with the hands & have already painted them both several times and kept ending up with doll hands. I could have saved myself the trouble. I like this much better!

Thumbs UP - keep the hands out - very nice without them!

Thanks so much Aspenman & yarddog.
I have heeded the advice from the helpful folk on this forum & the Acrylics forum - eliminated the hands & intensified the values. I did add one teeny sign that satisfies my detail urge - but I don't feel that it detracts from the whole. I think the rework is an improvement - hope you agree!

I love it. Perfect. Ready to go home to an owner. Its adorable, and whimsical, and yet says something rather poignant about life, doesn't it?

Agree with everyone else that the concept is fantastic. But I think you've got some fascinating artistic virtues in the piece that suggest you've been chanelling Thibaud. The form relationship between the girl's legs and the stripes on the wall is amazing and the hue balance between the cone and legs and dress is likewise. Get the local museum on the phone. They need to hang this.

This is awesome! I like the colors in the final version. However, I did like the idea of leaving the hands in. Maybe making them a little larger. The subject's right hand is not a left hand as suggested by JMO. I think JMO thought that was a palm instead of the outside of the hand. To me the hands add to the story of what just happened and probably has happened to us all. But, I guess I was out voted.
