T - The background is a little flat, try and add some depth to it maybe? I like the use of complement colours from the table to the sky, this helps to balance the painting out. Also the flower pot needs a but more shadding onthe edges to help make it feel more rounded. Off to a good start!

Hi T and welcome to the forum. I think you are off to a good start on your painting journey. A few things I notice is it looks like the flowers are behind the vase. I wish I had Photo Shop so I could show you. I would add stems and more flowers toward the front of the vase and add a little more color to the flowers. The other thing would be to make your table or shelf straight across the wall. Hope that helps a little. Keep having fun with your painting....Lenore

Hi T.Ihrig....welcome........
this is a good start....but gee....look at all the canvas you have left.....
why not fill it up....with more flowers.....fill the canvas with them...hahaha
and make them really bright and colorful.....with perhaps some greenery too....?
I sometimes clamp a shoplight in my mind....to shine on my subject....
imagine the light shining on it...and the shadows it would have....helps me anyway....hahaha
keep it up...and enjoy yourself.....yd
