I love sunflowers and I think I'll do a series. Please give me your C&C's on this one. Does it need anything? I want to put it in an exhibit coming right up. By the way, I just won 3rd place in an annual local juried show. Even got a cash award! Yea!

Congratulations on the award, Helen! Cash is good! I really like your sunflowers and think they are a great subject for a series - people love them! It seems like you can do them very realistically or you can get loose and impressionistic and they still have such an appeal. I am jealous of how well you used the yellows - I have yet to be able to do that!

Way to go Helen. Now you can buy more pastels.:D I really like the close up. A nice mix of warm and cool yellows.

 Ya Hoo! Cash is soo good! Isn't that fun? Your sunflower makes a nice pastel painting, what a good idea! I think a series would be a good thing.

Thanks Donna, Doug and IM. Painting sunflowers makes me happy. I think I might do the next one very loose and ethereal.

Helen, wonderful job on the sunflowers. I have one wip sitting on a board wating for me to get to it. I did a sort of series of sunflowers in watercolor a few years ago. Most of my watercolors are flowers with compositions similar to this one of yours. Congrats on the award and the cash!

Very nice Helen! Congrats again!

I love sunflowers too, but in several different ways. For example here's one of my photos: http://www.kacweb.com/albums/SunflowerHarvest/Sunflower-Power-1331S.jpg

Enjoy! And keep up the great work!

Wow, Kenny. That is quite a take on sunflowers. I never would have thought to take a photo of dead ones, but yours is so fascinating. Kind of gasping its last breath. Jimmy Wright does paintings of dead sunflowers, and he was even on the cover of Pastel Magazine. Hmm. A dead sunflower as a part of my series.

Thanks Helen, I'll have to try and find his work. This particular image was intended to convey a surreal feel and I keep wanting to draw or paint it and have started several times, but never seem to get it quite like I want.

Don't take it that I only enjoy dead ones. :) :) :) I just love the big sunflowers, the colors, the following of the sun...

Keep up the great work, I'll keep watching and learning!

(Just checked out Jimmy -- crazy stuff! Thanks for the mention)
